An astoundingly bad story. Man, Superman's sex tape, some slightly uncomfortable age differences between kissing partners, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's incest? All.... "fine." Ms Marvel's rape baby and The Avengers being total cool with it and her going off to live with her "son"/rapist reincarnate? Yeeeesssssshhhhhhh.

Lee and Kirby established the age difference between Reed and Sue, but I believe the specific detail that Reed had known her since she was 12 came from Byrne.

At least Claremont had Carol point out to her fellow Avengers that they were thick leaving a rape victim with her oppressor when she turned her back on them. It was probably the fact that her restored memories lacked emotional attachment so she thought, hang on a minute, you did WHAT? :cardie:

Claremont wasn't operating in a vacuum, many of the leading fans of the time has written in the comics fanzines about how disgusting that story was - for example:

Here the point of view of Jim Shooter

http://www.jimshooter.com/2011/12/avengers-200.html

Generally, the first time I saw a book was when the finished pages were given to me to sign off on before they were sent to Chemical Color, the separators. There were exceptions, of course, books with which I was more involved. I don’t think this was one of them. But, possibly I made some suggestions that garnered me a “co-plotter” credit, and if so, what was I thinking?

And, I guess I signed off on this book.

I regret it.

But, in those days, in any case, the buck stopped at my desk. I take full responsibility. I screwed up. My judgment failed, or maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention. Sorry. Avengers #200 is a travesty.

That was Marvel trying to stop the bleeding from everyone they had pissed off, and trying to do it in a way without having to do a retcon or something.

Who's betting though that when it comes to the DVD, if you want those deleted scenes of Rogue, or most of the juicy extra content; you'll have to buy the 3D Blu-ray version, nevermind just the normal Blu-ray

(ie. what FOX also did for Prometheus and The Wolverine)

X-Men DOFP is doing crazy good at the box office!

X-Men DOFP: 662 mil and rising!
The Wolverine: 415m
X-Men First Class: 354m
Wolverine: 373m
X-Men 3: 459m
X-Men 2: 408m
X-Men: 296m

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_(film_series)

Yep doing well might break the US$700m mark or almost double First Class. Which bodes well for perhaps a 4th film featurng the FC cast.

But what is also interesting is the breakdown of takings in tersm of where the money was taken

US vs Rest of the World

X-men: 53.1% vs 46.9%
X2: 52.7% vs 47.3%
The Last Stand: 51% vs 49%
Origins Wolverine: 48.2% 51.8%
First Class: 41.4% vs 58.6%
The Wolverine: 32% vs 68%
DOFP (at the momet): 31.1% vs 68.9%

So each film in the order it came out has taken a greater percentage of it's takings at the International Box Office.

Yeah, pretty much.

Not to be Debbie Downer but those numbers kind of scare me. Yeah I know we're getting another movie immediately but the decay of American viewers (where the money matters most to the industry) is worrisome for the future. If Age of Apocalypse's total take goes into the twenty percentile range of American money made we're probably going to start seeing some budget cuts in future X-Men movies.

It's not a decay of American viewers (not a significant one, anyway), it's just that the international market has exploded in recent years. DoFP is only $30 million away from matching The Last Stand's total domestic box office.

^ Well, counting ticket inflation and 3D surcharges, that does indicate some domestic decay as well as international growth, but as the overall market is flooded with more and more Marvel product (four major movies plus a TV show and mini-show this year alone), some divvying up of casual moviegoing audiences is inevitable. We'll see if audiences will sustain a steady stream of DC movies in addition to the regular Marvel+Marvel Studios output , but at the moment, things are going quite well.

But as has already been stated, isn't it a case that the International box office has been growing in recent years and do a certain extent the studios have focused on that as they might see that market as the one with greatest potential for growth.

In the case of DOFP China alone accounts for US$114.4m (around 25%)of the Internatioanl take, the next biggest is the UK at US$38.8m
