Right now, terrorists are plotting to bomb England with unmanned drones. But now they have one less viable one because of me! That's right, my plan to drive around England with the lead terrorist's daughter in my car to get shot up with the drone missiles is going exactly as I planned! My name is Jack Bauer and today is the most bad-ass day of my life.

The following takes place between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

    Events occur in TV time.

I was about to say that Jack was flying Executive One, but I guess not. It's just an escape helicopter.

That was my first thought. That should have been a silent clock.

Unless Chloe actually hacked it, and switched the targeting...i'd have to look back to see if the drone camera was on Heller the whole time when the missile exploded. I know they saw him before they targeted...but Chloe might have saved him.

We'll see...so what's the longest a person has been president in the 24 universe?

The last 24 they ever do...My name is Jack Bauer, and today is the last day of my life"...where he saves the life of a two term president!

What I was wondering was how many Presidents has Jack Bauer been directly involved in the death or resignation of? Like all of them for the past 20 years (in the world of 24)?

That thought did cross my mind. We never did see the whole discussion between Heller/Jack/Audrey's husband about "the plan." It may have been a part of the plan all along to just make everyone think the President is dead.

But some other things made me think that maybe this is not the case. For example...

In next week's preview we seem to be moving forward with the assumption that the President has died. Also in the preview I thought it was funny that they said something like "on America's most tragic day."What they should have added is "since a nuclear explosion in L.A." "since the last presidential assassination" "since thousands of Americans died in terrorist attacks," etc.

So is Jack going to fall from that building in the previews and be out cold for 10 hours? I thought we would've time jumped by now.

I'll spoiler-code this for Aldo's sake who is watching the series for the first time on DVD.

Unknown president during 24's first season, who was either Palmer's challenger for office or the incumbent predecessor for their party.

David Palmer (D): Served one term, briefly interrupted via the 25th Amendment during, and after, Day 2 due to Palmer's perceived incompetence and illness between seasons.

We'll ignore the VP's presidency during Palmer's illness.

Palmer ended up stepping down during the debate cycle of re-election, so pretty late in his re-election campaign, pretty much allowing his opponent to win.

John Keeler (R): Served between the inauguration day after Day 3 and the events of Day 4. (About 15 months) Was seriously injured in an attack on Air Force One advancing his VP to President.

Charles Logan (R): Served between Day 4 and Day 5, the better part of two years, serving in place of Keeler. Unseated for treason during Day 5 advancing his VP to presidency.

Hal Gardner (R): Served between Day 5 and Day 6, finishing out Keeler's first term, which was handed over to Logan and then himself. Making three presidents in a single term.

Wayne Palmer (D): Elected between Day 5 and Day 6 which begins a few months into his term. He's critically injured and/or killed during the day's events advancing his VP.

Noah Daniels (D): Finished out Wayne Palmer's term and did not win reelection.

Allison Taylor (R): Sworn in during "Redemption" and was President for the rest of the series. Resigned during Day 8 due to the conspiracies in her office, advancing her VP.

James Heller (D): Elected during the election following the events of Day 8 and served until present-day in the 24 universe, advancing his VP to presidency following his assassination.

Aside from the President during Day 1, during the entire run of 24 no President has ran a full, uninterrupted, term. The closest we get is David Palmer who served a full term, setting aside the interruption caused by his cabinet and Congressional members and then illness during/after Day 2. It also means there were 9 presidents in the span of something like 18 years.

The deeper we go without the time jump, the more jarring the show will feel when it does happen. It's kind of like what happened on shows that time jumps a year (Parks and Recreation) or 3 Years (Battlestar Galactica). We have this story and then you get the time jump and there's a huge gap in the story. I too would have thought we would get the time jump about now.

I don't think Heller is dead. I think Chloe figured out that one of those two streams that were vulnerable was the video feed and put a fake shot in for Margot's benefit.

I also don't think the pardon means anything. If Heller is really dead, we all know the Boudreaux will somehow lose the pardon and hand Jack over to the Russians to save his own ass.
