Over thirty-five years later, those 13 seconds still fill me with excitement. Part of it is because everything but the lasers seems to be real. Part of it is that I care so much about the characters. Part of it is the fun, zippy tone. Part of it is just how exciting that they want the doors closed and then immediately opened. Part of it is that this is really high-spirited adventure that holds up, especially when compared to today's super-cynical times. I hope the new films have a similar feel.

I think my favorite scene in Star Wars from when I was a kid is in that section of the film, and it's the moment where Han is chasing storm-troopers while screaming like a maniac. Even ata very young age when I saw it, I remember laughing. A lot. And realizing that this movie is so fun to watch, so fun to get involved in, and made me feel like I could just kick back and enjoy everything about it.

They just need to get Rob Liefeld to direct. You'd never see anyone's feet.

Half the doors in the Star Wars galaxy do seem as if they're trying to kill the characters walking through them.

This is sad. I've seen New Hope a thousand times and that's the first time I've ever seen that Stormtrooper hit his head on the door. I've heard it mentioned a lot but I never saw it anywhere!

Did you ever notice Jango Fett bumping his head on the door as he climbed into his ship in AOTC?

I guess it runs in the family. ;)

IIRC, the actor did that on purpose in reference to the scene from A New Hope.

I think it was actually his CG "stunt double" and the animators sort of put that in as a joke.

Yeah, that scene definitely looks animated.

If I saw that I must have forgotten it long ago. I'll have to rewatch the escape scene on the Kamino landing platform.

    This.

Another scene on a similar note is in Cloud City when our heroes are escaping(following Han's freezing scene)and they get into the lift, the doors closing as the stormtroopers just get to it.

There's more excitement and "Phew, they JUST made it!" fun than in the whole of the CGI augmented opening twelve minutes or so of ROTS!

I too am REALLY hoping VII captures some of that swashbuckling fun feeling from the OT.

    ^ I completely agree

Even using the same (awesome) scene you are referring to) Red Letter Media elaborates on this point in this video

    COOL!

It's funny but even as a 44 year old man, I STILL think of that scene from TESB and the similar, scarier scene from "Aliens"(When Ripley and Hicks are in the lift and alien flings itself at them), just about every time I am in a lift, waiting that extra second or two for the doors to close!

It's amazing how seminal these scenes can be to young, developing minds.

I love Han's draw on Vader in Cloud City. Seems like exactly what the character would've done.

Same here. I love the fact that Han doesn't even hesitate. He just tries to take Vader out the second his sees him.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It's almost as if he's inclined to...shoot first? But that's impossible because we would have seen it before. Surely he must have wiggled his head awkwardly and wait for Vader to miss before shooting back? ;)
