Even then you'll probably be in trouble. Especially near the end of a season where things get more tense and Jack is pissed off all the time :D

Only annoying thing here is that they gave up after they ran out of missiles. They can't exactly land and reload these things, seems that intentionally crashing the drone when it's empty should be part of the (obvious) plan. Why just give up, and what do they do with the unarmed drone?

i guess the drone doesn't have the speed of a missile, so somehow you can avoid it.

They mentioned that the first few shots were made from at least 20,000 feet.

The empty drone could also be used to distract from the drones that DO have missiles.

Does the drone have gun-fire capability or just missiles? If it's purely out of any kind of ammunition then seems to me it'd be more useful to crash it into something when it begins to get low on fuel.

I haven't heard of drones equipped with guns. For one thing, they're usually operated from a great height where they're probably impractical. Plus, drones are already hated enough, I couldn't imagine if they chased people around peppering them with bullets. Lag might be a factor too which wouldn't be as much of an issue with a missile based system.

I have to nitpick about the quality of the characters this season. Outside of Jack, whom we expect stoicism from, Heller (William Devane should run for the presidency in real life; he'd probably win) and Kate, who is still borderline in this thought, the rest of them seem to be reading the words from the script and acting angst filled. There's nothing tying me to them emotionally.

Good point, who knows what capabilities 24 Drones have.

They should be armed with Cougar missiles.

Speaking of Kim...wonder what she's up to nowadays...from being a nanny to working at CTU...should she have been Kate Morgan?

And since the drones are not detectable by radar, etc.... the "empty" drone would be the perfect decoy (how would they know if it's armed or not?)...let them focus on that, while the other ones do the dastardly job

    There is nothing more devious!

The CIA director dude tells Jack in the first hour that Kim had another kid and that's about all we learn about her. Presumably she's still living in California, though lord knows what living there is like considering the events of Season 6.

Obviously it wasn't that bad when there were people out shopping just hours later.

A nuclear bomb went off! That's not something that can be chalked up as not being "that bad." Suitcase nukes have a yield of 10KT, the bombs used on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were 15KT bombs.

We're told in the season that some 13,000 people died in the detonation and this likely doesn't include persons who died due to radiological and thermal effects after the bomb went off, especially since many of these deaths would occur in the days following the bomb.

Now, we could argue if on the scale of nuclear attacks if a 10KT nuke is "that bad." Which, well, it really "isn't" especially if we look at how Hiroshima and Nagasaki look today. But the reaction from the public wouldn't be, "Meh." (IIRC, we criticized the show for showing the NBD attitude of people following a nuke going off in a local community.)

Now, interestingly we're told the coordinates and the address of the warehouse the bomb went off in/was located. The address is purely fictional and doesn't correspond to the coordinates used but those coordinated do correspond to a specific building in Valencia, CA.

A 10KT nuke at ground level going off at those coordinates, would create a 540 foot wide crater that's 100 feet deep. assuming a 10mph wind would look something like this:

I think it's more of an informational website on seeing the power of nuclear weapons.

School ended this week so I was a bit busy preparing for that I didn't have too much time to watch 24, but today I've watched the next two episodes up from Season 2 (the one where they fly the bomb out to the desert) and the episode after that.

I've read about them doing this in 24 before, but I like the way they subtly shifted the focus of the show: no longer are is it a race against the clock to find the bomb, now it's a race against the clock to prevent a War (gee, doesn't Jack ever catch a break?).

There's also another aspect that I love that I know becomes the norm for this show (and is also a trope in these kinds of shows/movies) placing Jack on the wrong side of his superiors, so we can root for him while also rooting against the other good guys. Though the way they shifted Tony into the antagonist role against Jack kind of annoyed me, I was really liking him up till this point.

And since this is a thread regarding the current season, I suppose I'll mention it too :p Needless to say I enjoyed it greatly, watching Jack outrun the bombs was exciting, as was the way they eluded them by switching cars under the overpass. I've really enjoyed Kate so far and if they do intend to continue the show with her as the lead (not confirmed I don't think, just speculate here) I'd be all for that.

The mid-season shift of plot is a pretty common trope/occurrence in the series. Season 3's entire focus remains on the virus but it also has something of a shift of focus during it, a couple times actually, on who is actually the one in control of the threat.

Jack being on the wrong side of his superiors is also common, as well as him "going rogue" to do what needs to be done, usually leading to usual nonsense at CTU with Divistrict coming down to cause even more trouble.

Again, lots of tropes and -isms in the series to the point you could almost make a Madlibs outline and write a season of 24. But, still, a good, fun series by and large.

As for Kate helming the series. I could see it, and likely watch it I just don't know how fun and intense it would be. She's delivered her own brand of bad-assery and take-no-bullshit-ery but she's still no Jack.

Since I'm out of school now I'm actually planning to finish Season 2 in the next few days. Possibly as early as tomorrow. I really want to get to season 3 and see the first meeting of Jack and Chloe :D

Two episodes away from the end of Season 2, and the shit has just hit the fan. Sherry Palmer has just been stabbed, but it's her own damn fault: When Jack Bauer (hell when anyone) tells you to stay away from an emotionally unstable individual you better do it!

When Kim showed up at her old employers house I knew that the abusive father would show up too. In real life that coincidence would be too wild to imagine, but this isn't real life, this is 24! And dammit things happen to cause drama! And I love it!

So far...I imagine it gets taken to ridiculous extremes as the series progresses.
