I Wish I Had A Friend

I was trying to get back at the grocery store I worked at but my car is off the road until who knows...

Ugh.

Ah ok.

Any place you could bike to or walk to?

I used to bike to the A&P when I worked at that bakery. The other bakery I had to drive pretty far for.

Anything near by I have applied at and got nothing. I have had health issues too so it has been rough.

Car issues..ugh! THOSE I have had way too much familiarity with. :sigh:

The only positive to that, is that when it's (you're) back on the road, you almost feel reborn!

Taking smaller steps is always good. One tends to set huge goals that are extremely difficult to reach and that's frustrating. By slicing a goal up into several sub-goals which are easier to achieve, one gets a feeling of success which boosts one's self esteem.

I guess the best thing is to take it one day at a time. I think too far ahead to be honest.

Yeah, thinking too far ahead can create problems in and of itself. It can seem very daunting and intimidating to realize that something or other will take, say, five years. Thing is, if you do whatever it is that will take five years, the time will pass regardless, and if you don't act, in five years one can easily look back and say "I wish I'd done (whatever it is)."

Metaphorically, think of a lake, and you're standing on one side of it next to a boat, looking across to the other side. Say it will take an hour to row across that lake. Try to visualize yourself on the other side, looking back at where you are now. It's just a matter of row, row, row that boat to get there.

I'm not sure how helpful that will be, but I use such 'visual aids' a lot in life. It helps me to have somewhat of a handle on an always uncertain future. It reminds me that if I don't row for that hour, I'll be right where I started in an hours' time. Then comes the "beating myself up" for not having done it. I wasted a lot of years in that position, thinking pretty much anything was impossible. But the truth is, we have a lot more say in our future that we often realize!

Not only can you cross that lake, but we'll be there waiting with a nice picnic lunch on the other side! :)

I dread sharing my problems with strangers but I am glad anyone has offered support. :) :adore:

ETA: If it wasn't for my car, which is gone now...I'd feel like I was in prison but I don't get cable or satellite. *pouts*

Maybe...but we're better than cable or satellite! :techman:

I got rid of cable a while back, and to tell the truth I think I'm better off for it, at least at this stage in my life. Nothing can throw feelings of being inadequate at us like television can. Those feelings can really add lead weights to the backpack!

LOL I agree - we beat any soap TV has to offer :)
Don't have cable either - it's not available at my house - and somehow in the almost 2 years I've ben living here I didn't quite get around to install a satellite dish. Can't say I miss anything, though. I go to bed early read a lot instead.

Oh, and I don't have a car. I rent one when I need one (about 10 times a year). What's wrong with your car, TayLaLaLa? I bet we have a lot of DIYers here who might be able to assist.

The new Game of Thrones is online.

Last I checked Game of Throne has never fucked my girlfriend or stolen from me.

Game of Thrones: 1. Friends: Minus 7.

Tell yourself there is going to be one positive thing every day. Have a small goal you want to do in a week, like reapply at local places (reapplying is good, it shows initiative).

This is a great point. Yes the time will pass regardless, something I'm often oblivious to.

blech blech no hugs please blech!!

LOL, nah it's okay. I trained myself to endure hugs like I trained myself to endure spiders, though I prefer the spiders.

What about volunteering somewhere until you find a job? It will give you something to do, allow you to focus on the problems of others, and look good on your resume.

Hey, that's good! I've volunteered in homeless shelters. It was a great experience and did something useful. I was very down at the time, and it really helped put a perspective on things. The first time I did it was the most memorable and character-building Christmas Eve I ever had.

I agree. You may feel like there is nothing around to volunteer with but you could call up places like rotary, lion's club etc.. you don't have to join, you might just show up for a charity event they are having and pitch in. A lot is going on everywhere that is kind of invisible unless you really look. And yeah it might be boring or really not seem to fix anything but it's true that if you did 5 of those things that's 5 pieces of volunteer work you could write on a resume.
