I imagine makeup artists these days have gotten pretty good at concealing tattoos. There's a few actors, and the ex-wrestlers for sure, who must need quite a bit of touchup.

Oberyn really needs to pose for more pictures with The Mountain. It really makes his eyes pop.

It's not any worse a joke than you've already read.

I see what you did there.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

As the episode progressed i began to worry we wouldn't actually see the fight that even the episode title spoiled but man was that awesome.

Another moment of awesomeness was Sansa. Inthe first season she was the unbearable arrogant noble girl that i barely could stand to see. Seasons 2 and 3 saw her suffer so much, more than anybody should and i felt so sorry for her because there was nothing she could to but every once in a while she got a small victory in even if it was only verbal which showed that she developed quite a wit of her own.

Now that wit came into full force during her interrogation at the Vale and she did brilliantly by outplaying Littlefinger and putting him deep into her pocket (something he's not really used to).
It remains to be seen what he does in this situation, we know he doesn't like to be out of control and Sansa has basically a blade to his throat so will he retaliate sooner or later or is he so proud of what Sansa has become to let this one slide.
The wardrobe change of Sansa was just the crowning achievement - it showed her total transformation to something new and damn was she hot in it (feel kinda creepy now because she's not 18 yet i believe :p).

The fight between the Mountain and the Viper was so well done and in true Ice & Fire style the one who people liked most dies.. this time due to his own undoing and arrogance for once but still.
The show translated that perfectly and i also believed for a split second that they might actually let Oberyn live but it would have been too big of a change.
I actually went "Holy Fuck" when near-death Mountain punched Oberyn in his mouth and the teeth went flying (nice detail) but what followed was just gruesome and brutal.

Poor Jorah, always making the wrong choices and paying a heavy price. He did wrong but i still felt sorry for him because while he started for his own goals he turned and would have died for her in an instant but there was no way to make up for his betrayal and repair the burned bridge.

Only 2 episodes left and the stakes are very high for many characters, especially Tyrion. Since i spoiled myself in advance (i am weak :( ) i know what happens to some of the characters soon and i can't wait to see it.

She is 18 now, but not when that scene was filmed.. So wait until next season, then its not creepy :D

Yea. I failed to understand what was in it for him to spy on Daney? It's not as if he couldn't have gotten gold from her or their conquests.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Can't remember whether the show has said much about this or not. Thinking yes, but in spoiler code just in case.

He was exiled from Westeros, under threat of execution. Ironically for his new Queen (or perhaps his love for her is tied in with his change of heart) he was caught trading in slaves. Fled to avoid being executed, so he's just been wandering the east until he ran into Danys. So the pardon would be a lot more valuable than gold, as it would allow him to return to his home.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Not entirely sure he was wandering Essos - I believe he was always in league with Illyrio Mopatis who was, in turn, in league with Varys back home. Mormont always seemed to be an available asset, as he was looking for a means to get back home and using Illyrio to help him keep an ear to the ground, waiting for some opportunity. Mormont knew Varys was still at King's Landing and helped him work out a royal pardon in exchange for any service that might be required of him. When it was decided that Daney would be "sold" to Drogo, the opportunity presented itself to watch her. I'm thinking he was always tacitly connected there.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

^^^ thanks to both. That makes more sense. Based on that, why be so bothered by the banishment from Daney? Headed home anyway with a full pardon.

Or perhaps he fell in love with Daney and now regrets his decision? IF so, he's a blind man because it's clear that Daney has no romantic interest in him - she looks at him more as a father figure.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Yes it is because he is in love with her. And yes, he lives in hope idiotic though it is.

The latter - Mormont fell madly in love with her during their journey and stopped informing against her. He was telling the truth there, and he owned up to loving her at the moment she was in the process of banishing him (boy howdy, bad timing there!) knowing that her love could never be returned, even in the best of times.

And there have been several occasions where they hint at this.

For example, one of my favorites from last season, during their attack on Yunkai, when Mormont came back to Daney's tent announcing their victory, all bloody and messed up from the fighting - almost like a lost puppy looking for a treat and a pat on the head - she immediately asked him what happened to Dario, like sacking the city wasn't even that important. Mormont's smile sadly faded and we are initially meant to think that maybe Dario fell in battle, but when he appears in the tent late, we in fact see that Mormont realizes he's no longer Top Dog on Daney's list of generals any more. There was some great acting on that one - the silent kind.

For example, one of my favorites from last season, during their attack on Astapor, when Mormont came back to Daney's tent announcing their victory, all bloody and messed up from the fighting - almost like a lost puppy looking for a treat and a pat on the head - she immediately asked him what happened to Dario, almost as if the sacking of the city wasn't even that important. You could see the sadness in her eyes as he turned to leave, too. Another nice piece of acting.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Oh, yes! That whole scene was heavily charged with silent tension, in some ways even more so than the final fight between Clegaine and Martell. The best actors can deliver volumes of dialog without saying a single word. They should both win some kind of awards for this (Emmy? Golden Globe?) Even the silent presence of Selmy and Grey Worm, both ready to cut Mormont down in less than a heart-beat was well done.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

This was another great episode, however I think they should have named the Episode "The Pillar and the Stones."

Mate, as noted she is 18 now, and it's not like she was pre-pubescent looking when they filmed it. I think you're in the clear for feelings of attraction you're unlikely to have the opportunity to act on ;)

Another great silent moment is when he catches Daney's younger lover exiting her bed chambers and you could see the utter disappointment in his face that she had slept with another man.

Yep, that really was the beginning of the end for Mormont.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Agreed. It's not going well for his love life. Poor fellow.

There is a very short interview with Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) in Entertainment Weekly about the events in "The Mountain and the Viper".

"Emotionally for me it was so intricate,” Clarke says. “Jorah’s been with me since day one, season one. The scene itself is unpleasant because I — Emilia — know that what Dany is doing is wrong, And it was the first time I’ve ever felt that. [...] "I’m looking at Ian Glen thinking: ‘Don’t leave!’" she says. "I’m banishing him and all I want to do is cling to his ankles. It was really hard it marked one of the biggest decisions of this character to date."

Click here for the full article.

Edit: And there is another interview with Ian Glen here.

I shall miss Oberyn, but he was a fucking idiot here, because TPTB needed him to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
