^What he said. Wow they held nothing back there.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Wow, just wow... they carried that off exquisitely.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Well, I didn't expect that! :wtf:

So did Arya and Sansa reunite or what?

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Loved Arya's laughing at the end.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Jesus! They really showed the whole thing.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Holy shit! I don't think more needs to be said about that scene. Moving on...

Arya's laugh was just perfect. As dark as this show is, I love that it's not afraid to inject a little levity here and there. It doesn't take itself too seriously and I love that. I also love that I now have a scene that I can point to to show non-book readers why Sansa is so awesome.

Sansa Stark gonna get "littlefingered"!
;)

As for the end, I've read some book spoilers for certain plot points, but luckily I didn't know anything about that. As Forbin said, was not expecting that to happen!

7 days till next week? Laaaaaame (or actually maybe two weeks as I'm guessing next weeks will be all Jon Snow and co, ala Season 2's episode 9 all being King's Landing)

Good lord! Won't get that image out of my head any time soon.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Fantastic episode. Can't say I'm surprised that the show took what happened in the book and turned it up to 11. That was pretty damn brutal, and disturbing.

I can't believe there are people around the interwebs who are actually shocked by what happened. Come on! Were they not paying attention to the first three seasons?

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Brutal and surprising? This is Game of Thrones after all. I'd expect nothing less.

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

Fantastic! That was the Pillar and the Stones!

Re: Game of Thrones 4.8 - "The Mountain and the Viper" - Rate and disc

That's why you don't monolog until AFTER your opponent is dead. Stabbing him, turning around, and assuming it'll all work out (while staying within reach) is a rookie move, and he deserved what he got there... ;)

Wow.

GO GO SANSA. Sansa is my favorite female character. In this episode she stepped into what she has been in training for all these years.

And.. the fight. Even though I knew the outcome of this fight I was on the edge of my seat. That was incredible.

:p

Fun fact for non-readers: Lord Nestor Royce briefly mentions his son Ser Waymar Royce here. Waymar was the first character to ever die on the show. He was one of the two Night's Watch rangers killed by White Walkers in the opening scenes of the pilot episode.

I like how they adapted this part of the book. It gave Sansa more of an active role in covering up what went on and it was probably a more efficient way of telling the story. Great job in that scene by Sophie Turner.

Oh, and I had to laugh at the "guess what song I'm burping" game at the beginning of the episode because apparently in Westeros, you basically have a 1 in 2 chance of getting it right.

Totally missed that the first time - nice catch!

I am truly intrigued about where this all is going now. Alayne (Sansa) has an interesting Raven motif going on there in the end. In fact, it now feels like all the Stark children are going to the crows, symbolically. Sansa's outfit; Bran is going to see the "three-eyed crow" and Jon Snow is a "crow" of the Night's Watch. Rickon is an unknown here in this case but still too young to be significant at this point. Interesting foreshadowing there for all the others, though. I think Sansa's performance in front of the Lords of the Vale surprised even Littlefinger - someone who generally prides himself on not ever being surprised by anything. Her transformation is now complete.

The Viper/Mountain fight really did turn out dead-on-the-mark as I hoped/expected - brilliantly directed and choreographed. Martell was clearly a prideful sort, and that pride was his ultimate undoing, at its most brutal, the righteousness of his cause notwithstanding. He was a fan favorite when it came to long-term guest characters. Almost like the Kiss of Death in this show - much like weddings...

My only complaint was the way the Mormont betrayal was handled. It seemed very clunky and forced how the pardon note got to them in Mereen. In the previews, it showed that he already got his pardon a couple seasons back. And now, the same 2-to-3-year-old letter pops up again from Tywin Lannister, with Robert Baratheon's signature on it, after it had already been delivered elsewhere? What, was it sent back to King's Landing the first time and then bounce back around Essos until it found its way into Barriston Selmy's hands? I understand they had to get him out of Mereen but it really could have been handled better.

And the Missandei and Grey-Worm thing? Not sure where that's going...not sure where it can go. Interesting character moments but probably could have been surpassed in favor of a cleaner Mormont exit, IMO.

Anyone think that that little canyon that Arya and Clegane were walking down looked a lot like the same little canyon that the Thens and Wildlings linked up after they got over the Wall? Really seemed like the same location. Arya's guffaw, and a befuddled Hound and Bloody-Gate guards looking on in utter confusion. Now the Hound has litterally nobody left to ransome Arya to. It's little scenes like these that producers go out of their way to craft that really make a show.

Only two more episodes left in the season. I weep... :(
