Wiped Episode Discoveries

I think the latest that was said about it is a DVD would be released in 2014, and then they said they wouldn't confirm wether it would have 2 or 4 episodes or if 2 of them would be animated, and to ask again in Spring after April (I can't find anything "after April" as a follow up)

http://doctorwhoworldwide.com/2013/11/08/underwater-menace-dvd-not-to-be-released-until-after-april/

Supposedly work had begun on animating the remaining missing episodes of Underwater Menace, but it was cancelled due to "higher priorities."

The tweet on which that article was based is a little unclear. What happened was that Planet 55 Studios, the company that was working on the TUM animation, got commissioned to work on a children's series for the Australian Broadcasting Company. The need to devote their time and energy to that project may be the reason the TUM animation hasn't materialized yet, though that's just Steve Roberts' unconfirmed speculation. No one has outright said the animation is cancelled, and I imagine that unless the episodes have been/are found, it'll get done one way or another eventually.
Thanks. The article implies more news was expected to be available about now ("Ask again after April") <Cue the Omni Rumor that the currently missing episodes are taking longer than expected to be remastered/salvaged>

I think renaming the thread is a good idea. Sending a PM may get the mods' attention faster.
Oh, yea, I agree with the proposed name change as well.

I Agree With The Name.Change Too.So No New Hartnell Episodes Found? Just To Recap, What Has Been Discovered To Date?

Series 1 Missing:
All of Marco Polo (Omni Rumor generally has this being revealed as found next. There's a really nice, color telesnap Reconstruction available on Youtube or a similar site)
Reign of Terror Episodes 4 and 5 (Animated already)

Series 2 Missing:
Crusade Episodes 2 and 4

Series 3 Most of it Missing, only have:
Galaxy 4 Episode 3
Dalek's Master Plan Episodes 2, 5, and 10
The Ark (All of it)
The Celestial Toymaker Episode 4
The Gunfighters (All of it)
The War Machines (All of it)

Series 4 Missing:
The Smugglers (All of it)
The Tenth Planet Episode 4 (Already Been Animated, and also the Reconstruction with Telesnaps is so good, it's barely less than actually having the episode)

Not quite - there's two 'modern' Recons

The Colour version made mainly using on set photos - original designer Barry Newbury took many colour photos during rehearsals, and the BBCs B&W publicity photos were painstakenly colourised to match.

Then one of the reconstruction team met the story's original director at a signing. And it turned out he still still had the telesnaps for the 6/7 of the story he directed. So they did a new more faithful B&W version. They didn't feel like colourising another 300+ photos!

It does look rather gorgeous in colour. The early designers used their own money to take the colour photos, which is why there are more at the beginning of the show's history than a few years later. They ran out of money!

I did hear from another person a few weeks ago about the alleged commentary, from someone who is certainly in contact with actors.

They did? It's not listed on Loose Cannon's website, and I don't recall them mentioning they were going to use the Tele-Snaps, especially as DWM held the rights for them.

Aren't Loose Cannon in a form of hybernation at the moment? Their distribution method of VHS-only has left them stuck in the 20th century...

Thats just the official distribution - it says VHS quality.
Its actually been VHS quality DVD dubs for a few years.

Most of the more recent ones leaked on YouTube, they've turned a blind eye as long as the BBC turn a blind eye. They can't offically endorse them though.

If you manually alter the numbers for the LC articles, more recent ones are on there, though there's not much to add.

But as for the wider hiatus, I'd imagine they are waiting for the outcome of these rumours as much as the rest of us. Just one episode of a completely missing six part story recovered would mean less work to do on the other five, and a whole lot more screen captures to work from.

WarpedFactor.com has an update of sorts on the omnirumor (it came out May 11th, guess nobody noticed it): http://www.warpedfactor.com/2014/05/whats-going-on-with-all-those-doctor.html

To summarize:
- Marco Polo's fully restored and ready to go, pending final negotiations between BBC/TIEA (which even they thought would have been done by now).
- Of the 96 missing episodes found in Africa (yes, 96, The Feast of Steven wasn't sold overseas remember?), two (including The Web of Fear part 3?) - so far - have been confirmed unsalvageable.
- The Power of the Daleks, The Massacre, The Smugglers and The Macra Terror are all restored or soon will be.
- Sounds like the gameplan may now be to release two complete stories a year. The latest conjectural date being tossed around (on Planet Mondas) is June 26th for Marco Polo/Power of the Daleks.
- With 55,000 (AT LEAST) film cans to go through, TIEA will get to the other missing episodes when they get to them.

There's not one piece of factual information there (the quote from TIEA's facebook page excluded). It's just lumping together a bunch of similarly factually devoid claims from places like Outpost Skaro and Planet Mondas.

While I'd certainly not discount the possibility that more episodes have been found, the reality is in over seven months since the official announcement of Web and Enemy not one single claim made by any Omnirumourmonger has turned out to be correct. (But they always have an excuse on hand as to why.)

Marco Polo, seems the most credible, since it's been part of the rumor since before Web and Enemy were released

Power was never sold to Africa, so that seems to be a slight hole in the story.
Wasn't there a similar reason to doubt Web or Enemy? Or am I remembering some other eps that were lumped onto the rumor right before their release on iTunes?

The problem is you have multiple people all claiming to have inside knowledge all claiming different things.

TIEA gave it back to the BBC and it's restored but nebulous "legal issues" are holding its release up.

TIEA were going to hand it over but changed their mind at the last minute. (For various different reasons depending on who you listen to.)

The BBC have another copy of the story which was recovered independantly of TIEA.

And so on...

It was a reason to doubt the Marco-Enemy-Web rumour, as there was no sensible country where you'd find all three. Take out Polo and that problem goes away.
