OMG I have this on repeat it somehow IS this BBS to me.. that's all we want, the thunderfrakkingdome that IS fandom. That's why it is so exhausting sometimes.

Is this board for Start Trek only? And what kind of people hang out on here? I'm sort of new to this type of thing.

A quick glance of the front page and you will see the various forum. You managed to find your way into miscellaneous and must have seen the front page of topics.

That's what I don't really see the point of, Star Trek has been off the air nearly 10 years now. And the last movie came out last year. It would seem that any discussions on Star Trek have already been done. I was looking through some of the discussions and they all seem to be the same conversations over and over, or "Caption This" type of thing. Unless a new series comes out, as the Q said, it's all been said and done.

Well, if you really love something, you kind of never want to stop talking about it.

For instance, obviously I love Star Trek. But I also love classic TV. I have other friends who like classic TV. Some of those shows haven't been on since the 80s but we sure still like talking about them! :)

Here, Here! :) I still enjoy talking about shows that I enjoyed that were on the air as well. Generally hang out on the Misc board, and some other ones for the most part.

Mostly true, but you have to consider that this is an old board (about 14 years) and was founded when there was some new Trek. Over the years, many members have formed friendships and the board has simply turned into a place where we can hang out together.
And sometiomes a new poster brings a fresh perspective and makes us see a Trek detail from a different and previousely unnoticed angle.
And as long as there are new Trek movies... :)

Just boldly go and explore the board. There are a few pretty good subforums. My personal favourite is Science & Technology

Indeed. I just had my 14 year anniversary in April

There was a lot of Star Trek happening when I joined. The end of DS9. Voyager. Speculation about Series V (which turned out to be Enterprise). New movies every couple years. Trek was booming for a while!

I rarely discuss Trek anymore, but this community has been a part of my life for so long now that it's hard to leave. TrekBBS is literally the first place I go whenever I get on my computer.

Me, too. I hardly ever go into the Trek forums anymore. But I visit and post in Misc, TV/Media, the Lounge, and SciFi nearly every day.

That about sums me up. I hit 14 in January.

The past several years I've become a bit of a lurker. Somewhat ironic given my haste to become the first rear admiral (damn you, Rob Hal, wherever you are).

My Trek heydays were the late 90's. After DS9 ended my interest waned. Speculation on Series V sparked renewed interest in the franchise. Enterprise, on the other hand...

Yet I still check in almost daily and check out general scifi, science and tech and Trek XI. If this site closed down I'd be a tad lost!

To the OP: As you say, it's all been said. At least, that's how I feel regarding debating Trek. But for others, they haven't had their turn. So you're quite right in observing the merry go round nature of discussions.

I celebrated my 13th anniversary on the board a couple of weeks ago. I joined in the spring of 2001, when Voyager was airing its very last episodes, Enterprise (then called "Series V") was just getting underway and not yet on the air and the tenth movie which was yet to be known as Nemesis had been announced as coming to theaters the next year (I can't quite recall if it was already known for certain that it'd be the final movie with Picard and the TNG crew).

2001 was an exciting time to be a Trek fan. One series going off the air with a bang, the 22nd century prequel series about to begin, a new movie in the works and the franchise still chugging along (for the most part).

And some of us have been around for almost as long as the board. I'm at over 13 years myself.

I miss the days of new Trek. I don't miss the days of the infighting that went on here, but to get a new episode on TV each week was exciting. During the height of Enterprise (At least Season 1), I was posting mainly on the Startrek.com forums) and it was fun, kinda. Wish I had joined this board sooner than I did.

also whatever happened to that Oz Rock thread of yours, why is it dead why why
Um, good question... I'll see if I can resuscitate it. Didn't know there was such a brouhaha , clamour and kerfuffle for it. I'll get on it. :)

You are assuming that we all watched Trek as it originally aired. I didn't join the board until the very end of Enterprise aired, and I haven't even been too interested in the new movies. However, since joining about 10 years ago I've gone through TNG and now Voyager for the first times, and have found the ongoing discussions about them to enhance the experience. For instance, the first thing I did after watching the Voyager episode Tuvix was race onto this site to see if people were talking about it. And sure enough, there was a long and lively discussion being had that I could jump into. And this is almost 20 years after it originally aired. I think that's pretty awesome.

And as others have said, we talk about a lot of other things here as well. My main hangouts are Miscellaneous and General TV & Media. I watch a lot of random TV, and I've looked around for other forums that focus on my other favorite shows or on TV in general, but I never really liked what I found. The pace of discussion was either too fast or too slow, or the moderation was terrible, or I just didn't fit into the general population of the board. But TrekBBS is the perfect fit. Just enough new conversation every day to satisfy me, and intelligent conversation at that. I really think I'll only stop coming here if/when the board ceases to exist.
