I love Sheriff Mills. I wish the spinoff was about her, with or without Alex. I thought this was a good episode-- very personal and powerful for the sheriff.

Wasn't that bad. Actually want to check that show out now when before I had no interest.
Though not sure how that show will work in the world with Demons, Angels and Leviathans running around but as long as they put some humor into that show then im game. But if its a typical CW show that is all drama then no.

But wont that show be from the same writers? If so it has to be good and hopefully funny.
It doesn't always work out that way, sadly. The Lone Gunmen was made by the same people as The X Files. Caprica had many of the same writers (along with star talent) as BSG. To be fair, this being a BDP, they'll have plenty of time to work out the crater sized kinks (assuming they haven’t already filmed the pilot).
At any rate, the concept doesn't really appeal to me. Although I get wanting a spinoff to be distinctive (from the ‘road trip’ aspect of SN), too many shows have been to this trough (feuding clans/houses/nobles/bloodlines etc.), especially on this network. I'd much rather see something in a more unique, evocative setting. Some Silent Hill type shit. On top of that, it looks like another pandering CW casting.
Impossible to judge an eventual series based on the BDP alone, but this episode was some ass. So derivative, which surprises me, considering its pedigree. There was no hook at all. No “oh shit, WTF was that?” moment. Just another paint-by-numbers, feuding monsters-that-look-like-fashion-models show.
BTW - Does anyone know the lead from anything else he's been in, or is he completely new. He was about as dry as a bag of beans here, but I wonder if that was the script or him?

Supernatural lucked out with fantastic casting.
I've been watching way too much TV lately and was able to save 40+ minutes or so tonight after shutting this off.
I liked it, but then again, I like most of the shows on the CW. I'm curious what the relationship between Ennis, David, and Violet will be. I'm wondering if the three will end up working toether, or if Ennis is going to do his own thing, while the other two will have their own story/ies focused on the internal politics of the families?

All right, I just watched it and good grief, that was awful. Their choice for a lead, his "origin story," the whole Chicago set-up, and the "mystery" about his father was just... ugh.
What's really confounding is that they've had at least, what, half a dozen other potential stories to draw from for a spin-off already. The one that I was sure they were going to go with was the rebuilding of the Men of Letters, maybe even merging them with the other groups they've introduced like the Jewish one with the golem and working in Dorothy and etc.
What a wasted opportunity that'll be.

My pilot would have been 8 slacker shifters living in a loft with no light gaming all day long.

Oh hell, yeah. It's like they purposely took every bad cliche from each of the CW shows and then cast boring, pretty, young mediocre actors, and mashed it all up into a big, giant ball of give-me-a-fucking-break.
If that becomes a series, I will never, EVER watch it.
They could recast the characters and focus on different monster mobsters.
Hell the finance from the pilot, could come back as a cute ghost and become the new focus.

Well, none of this sounds very encouraging. It sounds as bad as I expected.
The Men of Letters, the Golem, and Oz were my top choices for a spinoff. Sheriff Mills would have been cool, too. A show that includes all of the above would really rock.
It wasn't Supernatural's finest hour, but it wasn't horribly, terribly, awfully, bad. I think the burden of being a backdoor pilot has us being a bit more critical than we ordinarily would. Ratings were up over last week, so that's a plus for the series overall.
I would much prefer a MoL focused spin off as many have already suggested. If the missing dad can be connected with them, that would raise the lead's stakes above just mobster mob family soap horr-opera.. But from what we saw here, and despite the ratings uptick, I don't see this one moving forward. Heck, the entire network would be composed entirely of franchises.

It was okay. But I think this episode made it clear that Bloodlines will be far closer to the standard CW formula than Supernatural itself has been. It's not really a formula I'm terribly fond of, and I wasn't particularly impressed by any of the Bloodlines actors, so I don't anticipate watching this new show.

Deadline.com has been tracking the buzz on all the new pilots. The CW has six pilots, and are likely to order five to series. Before last night's airing, the word on Bloodlines was that it was not a sure thing. I don't know if the ratings uptick will help the pilot or not.
Well if this goes to series I'll definitely be passing.
