It also got shot to shit before crash landing. I doubt the thing is salvageable for anything besides scrap.

Yeah, there are very few aircraft that can take a hard crash landing and remain flyable without anything short of a full rebuild. Those three things were clearly total right-offs.
... assuming he bothers to look, it's a safe bet Stark now knows Coulson is alive.

Maybe not. In the latest episode of AoS, Skye gains access to the internet on the "bus" and deletes everything about the team.

Pretty sure it's established that Stark uses a sat-linked network all of his own. Not the kind of thing you can access via the internet. Not even Skye. For starters, she'd have to know it's there.

Plus, I'm pretty sure she only scrubbed their identities, not all trace that they ever existed. There will be numerous documents with their names on, just no computer record of who these people are. And it's not like she deleted the hard copy files too, no?

Stark's computers may have access to the facts about the son of Coul. But the question is does tony Stark have a google alert equivalent about him? It is the same problem with assuming because someone has security clearance 10 he knows everything known by people with level 9, not that he can be briefed on a level 8,9 or 10 activity if he has a need to know.

Stark will have his own countermeasures against the likes of Skye in play. How successful they are, we won't know for a while yet.

It took Stark hours to hack into SHIELD in Avengers. Skye was able to do it in minutes in the first episode. It's also safe to assume SHIELD were probably wise enough to upgrade their systems so Stark couldn't do it again so easily yet Skye did anyway. I'm sure she could give Stark's programs a run for its money.

But it's not a conventional aircraft. As long as it has the structural integrity to support itself when slung between four huge repulsor lifts, it's good to go. Replace the damaged parts of the outer hull, add a new quota of aircraft and crew...

I don't care how powerful those arc reactors are. Anything that's designed to fly has to cut down on weight. Especially one that carries a hundred plus crew, their equipment, weaponry, ammo and at least a dozen aircraft. I seriously doubt the airframe is strong enough to survive falling from the sky and crashing into a building or the ground.

As I said, JARVIS would probably notice, realise the significance and bring it to his attention. He seems more than capable and is clearly not a simple computer, but a full blown AI intelligence. The point is whether Stark would have him data mine the dump or not.

The key phrase there is "structural integrity". I think you're vastly underestimating just how much force is involved when an object of that size falls out of the sky. There's no way the frame is still intact after an impact of that magnitude. Even it it was mostly in one piece by the end, no engineer in his right mind would trust the structure to ever support it's own weight again and not fold itself in half the second they fired the engines back up. There would be sheered joints, bent supports and micro-fractures all over the place. Trust me, it's scrap metal.

I'm wary of labouring this, so I'll probably let it go after this one, but I don't know that it was a particularly hard landing, let alone 'falling out of the sky'.

It was moving and descending pretty slowly and grazing the Triskelion would have slowed it further. If it carried on in the same direction it would have 'landed' the right way up and come to a gradual halt.

When there's that much mass an inertia involved, anything more than a perfect touchdown is going to be problematic if not potentially disastrous. Metal isn't as strong as you seem to think and machines are only built to tolerate so much. There's a good reason why ships in docks are moved by tug VERY slowly.

Here's the real question:

Did any of those hellicarriers ever have, y'know, names?

The Hellicarriers survive if the writers say they do. That's how these things work regardless of logic.

The only thing I recall seeing was "IN-01," "IN-02," and "IN-03" ... perhaps signifying "Insight One," Insight Two," and "Insight Three" as the official designations?

That's what I recall as well, no names on the ships exterior.
I did do a mental comparison as to NCC-1701, NCC-1701A etc..

I mean the Bus' callsign is a nice little nod to the larger comic canon without actually giving it a name as such. I expect there is something for the carriers too, maybe 64 will be named now she's non-Shield.

The Bus, the Fridge, the Triskelion, the Hub, all speak to a fun nomenclature when it comes to S.H.I.E.L.D facilities/vehicles. If this naming convention is from the comics, I wouldn't know, but that's how it has always struck me.Maybe Fury's Helicarrier from The Avengers is named similarly?

Knowing Fury, it's probably called The Ride. :techman:

^No, Fury's helicarrier is the one that has B** M***** F****** on it. (His tomb did say Ezekiel 25:17 in CA:TWS. :))
