When the DVD is released, we'll want to zoom in on some of the names that popped up when the Helicarriers began targeting. I could not read them fast enough in the theater. Were any names familiar?

SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY (how can this whole thread not be a spoiler thread?!?)
I voted excellent.
I'm going to give it a couple of relatively small dings, because I didn't like some of the battle tactics.
For example, Bucky should have kept Cap's shield when he caught it at first. Vibranium is a very rare thing. In general, I didn't like how Cap was always embedding his shield in something, but still managed to get it back in the end.
Another problem I had was how the Falcon's wings folded up so tiny. I realize Stark tech does that, but still. I also sorta rolled eyes at the seeming coincidence of his being the Falcon in the first place, yet Cap running with him in the beginning.
But these are minor quibbles that don't hurt the film overall. The Falcon, especially, provided levity (ha ha, no pun intended, honest) in what was very serious material. Fury's car chase scene was excellent, as was the SHIELD vs SHIELD/HYDRA stuff. The reveal in the bunker was sweet, but Natasha and Steve were slow on the uptake that they were likely in jeopardy there. The flirtation between them was quite entertaining.
But, the important part, the overall premise of sacrificing freedom for security was brilliant and quite timely. I really hope the film is well-received and, especially, widely viewed. It exceeded my expectations.

The film is big in scope and excels at moving development along while also delving into the past to do so. While IM3 and TDW were good films in their own way they felt very solo...and that's not a bad thing. I enjoyed the solo turn just as I would if it were a comic.
What Cap:TWS did was not only feel like a solo film, especially when he's treated as public enemy number one, but felt like a mini-teamup film with Sam&Natasha.
-Excellent use of Haley Atwell as Peggy Carter and in various ways. Nice Howard Stark, Col.Philips and the Howling Commandos via the exhibit. Which leads to a nice Stan Lee cameo!
-Stephen Strange mention, which all but alludes to the fact he's operating if he's on Hydra's radar. He just hasn't crossed paths with SHIELD per se.
-Sam Wilson feels like he's more developed than either Rhodes or Barton right now. A solid introduction for Falcon. "Don't look at me, I do what he does, only slower."
-Maria Hill, when she turned back up and was a big part of Act 3 I admit I didn't see that coming.
-Arnim Zola, well played, did not see that coming.
-I never believed Fury dead but really thought his return would be AoU. Which leads me to his gravestone. I about lost it when I saw "The path of the righteous man...." Ezk 25:17 on that headstone. I feel like, depending on how AoU plays out, that this sets Nick up for an operation like the Secret Weapons title that ran for 3-4yrs in the mid '00s where he's running a covert SHIELD team and Maria Hill is made Director in his place.
-I felt they set up Sharon Carter as a capable agent, attracted to Steve but really left plenty of mystery about her.
-Having digested the film I'm pleased with how they handled Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier. I'll admit that while watching it I kept waiting for his backstory to unfold. They gave the audience pieces and it's clear from that END CREDITS portion they plan to revisit him later and allow us to catch up with after he's learned things at his own pace via unadulterated means.
-Black Widow, I feel it will essentially be a criminal shame if Marvel Studios does not give us a BW solo film now. But especially after AoU. They have given her lots of attention now to the point the audience knows her enough to want to check out a solo tale. The breadcrumbs are just too enticing to now want to follow. Mix in some Hawkeye and score. Just don't make it a $150m budget film and it's got modest success written all over it.
-I honestly thought Robert Redford's Pierce would fade away early and the focus would be Winter Soldier. Boy was I surprised at how integral and involved in this film he was and he showed just why he's Hollywood Royalty. He commanded every scene he was in. He and SLJ playing off one another was fun to watch!
As for AGENTS OF SHIELD
While no direct dialogue is made about the show or it's main characters and no visual cameos made the impact is there as it applies to shows story with the Clairvoyant.
It's all but clear that the Clairvoyant is indeed a SHIELD person but really a HYDRA sympathizer posing as SHIELD loyal.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Arnim Zola isn't the Clairvoyant. A line in the film states, paraphrase, that a system was created to analyze data to project what a future outcome would be. This could be Zola. Given how Zola was portrayed you might could even get away with Toby Jones just doing the voice. Easy payday.
I am disappointed that Agent Jasper Sitwell appears to be a HYDRA sympathizer...but we'll see. He's appeared several times this season so his appearance here ties back.

While true they didn't focus on that it's made clear in dialogue and especially that notebook that Steve is making a list of "cool things", as they are brought to his attention like Marvin Gaye, that he should check out. His little joke about the internet being really helpful was a mildly humorous line.

Personally I think Nick Fury is the Clairvoyant. TWS showed that he can and does work outside of the system. As for not knowing what happened to Coulson, Fury may have handed over Coulson to the people with the alien but may not know what they actually did.
And I think Coulson is a HYDRA agent but somehow his death made him forget it.

Personally I was disappointed with Redford. All he seem to do was chew the scenery and read his lines. Plus his entire back story doesn't exactly scream HYDRA (since most HYDRA agents are criminal psychopaths). It's like finding out that Captain America is a secret communist.
One of them was Tony Stark.

I'm reading up on the twins. It's a shame they won't be connecting the X-Men and Marvel movie universes.
Stunt celeb casting has been the poison of superhero adaptations in the wake of the inspired casting of Brando as Jor-El / Hackman as Luthor (meaning it was never that good afterward). Whether it was Nicholson, Arnold, Dafoe or anyone else over the past 20-plus years, superhero films stunt celeb casting only serves to scream, "look at the big star playing a villain! That makes this comic book film legitimate!!"
Redford added nothing to the film.
The rest of the film: I already know the connected Marvel film universe is the priority over any individual character film, so plots of this nature are--by necessity--setting up plots on the outer lines of the story "web," moving toward its center (Avengers movies). So the film, while tense, energetic and established the awaited friendship between Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, we know this is another outer line set up.
That said, I think Captain America is--by far--the best of the Marvel movies; the hero is not only very likable, but his soldier/costumed hero in a time not his own gives his character an identity--a freedom to stand out from modern superheroes, where they all have some dark edge...a worn out theme today.

On one hand Natasha seemed like a buddy, who was just trying to get her buddy laid because that's what buddies do... She's into Hawkeye, so there's nothing weird going on here.
On the other hand it looks like she's directing him into a rebound relationship to smooth out all the kinks, so that he'll be road worthy when it's her turn to get behind his wheel.
I imagine that there's going to be 1/2 an hour of useful deleted scenes with Agent 13 on the dvd.

You're talking about Agent 13. I would like her to return, especially if she's a future romantic interest for Cap. But it might be weird if she had to say, "My name is really Sharon, not Kate." Come on, Cap should be able to go on a nice date with someone who is not, amazingly, related to Peggy.
No, Natasha revealed her real name as Sharon at the end of movie. In fact, I don't think I ever even caught "Kate" reference.
It's in the end credits, IIRC.
