But the "lore" of the Abramsverse is that it's not a wholesale reboot but simply an alternate timeline branching off in 2233. By its own ground rules, everything prior to 2233 is supposed to be the same as it was in the Prime canon.

Unless Voyager 6 was sent not only through space, but through time as well.

Some years ago, I wrote a "Borg origin" short story, "The Gray People," based on the premise (deprecated as of the Destiny Trilogy) that the Borg originated as an enslaved race of technology geeks, who overthrew their oppressors, but in so doing, became the Borg. And Voyager 6, transported not only across the galaxy, but deep into the past, was a focal point of that incident. As I recall, Jackson Roykirk also figured prominently in my opus.

At any rate, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to have explored the idea that Voyager 6 had been sent into the past.

Which is exactly what I proposed did happen in Ex Machina, but it doesn't change the fact that the probe was launched in the 1970s or '80s. I don't see how some sphere encountered in 2259 could possibly be the origin of it when we already know its origin.

And I am so sick of the way some fans want to force everything remotely technological in the Trek universe to have a common origin with V'Ger, the Borg, or both. Good grief, there are like a thousand incorporeal godlike races in Trek, so why is it so inconceivable that there could be more than one or two really advanced technological races that aren't offshoots of the same thing?

I don't understand that answer. If they're cool, what's wrong with wanting multiple different ones to exist rather than insisting that they all have to share a single common origin?

I was being humourous it would appear it came across as humourless my apologies.

I turned to Borg and V'Ger as the cows are being milked and so far we've been given Khan and I'm expecting something else to be delivered either on the big screen or via the comic-book medium.

I chuckled.

Christopher, it's because many Trek fans like to have everything interconnected. Well, that and Roddenberry apparently said that V'Ger might have visited the Borg Homeworld. I agree that it is a big enough universe that it's not likely the two are connected. Nonetheless if a writer could find a way to interconnect the two (not Shatner's answer in The Return), I probably would be okay with it. But I'm more than happy to believe the two are completely separate things.

As for 0718? Well, he is cool.

So he's not a Deltan, then? Hmm, I wonder what justification the story will offer for having sapient androids incorporated into Starfleet in this reality (the previews seem to suggest he's far from unique, that in fact it's common for a starship to have one of these people aboard).

I've always found Trek's inconsistent treatment of androids and so-called intelligent holograms to be rather puzzling so I'm keen to see where it leads. In another thread, someone criticised Pulaski's treatment of Data when in fact her behaviour was probably what I would consider more normal for using an interactive device.

This issue sounds like it could be an interesting character piece and it will be good to get another semi-regular character in the mix. I'm interested to see where it leads.

I hope the woman isn't meant to be Zahra! I really want Zahra to be featured as a semi-regular but after whitewashing Khan I'll be quite annoyed if they do the same to her. If they want to write about a caucasian blonde chick then use Rand, if they want to write about a south asian chick then use Zahra.
