I've also read a few tabloid articles stating he's one of the iconic actors, not expected to make it through the year.

Hopefully these rumors are exaggerated and he'll make a speedy recovery.

it's not surprising that a man in his early eighties is not in the best of health. I hope he is doing well but it would not surprise me if he is not.

About 1/3 of the living TOS actors are over 80 and the vast majority of those younger were very young actors who played mostly bit parts as random crewpersons.

So the fact is that the next 10 years will see almost every important figure in TOS leave us.

You've summed it up perfectly for me as well, though they have been a big part of my life since I was five years-old. I've periodically pondered losing the remaining TOS cast. Time waits for no one. Nimoy may have looked and sounded good three, four years ago on Fringe....but at his advanced age sometimes it just sneaks up on you suddenly.

I must agree as well, I have watched these two actors since I was six. I had no idea that Leonard ever smoked at all.
