I used to have neighbors who had come over from Scotland. I sometimes had to ask the mother to repeat herself (her daughter and I were classmates in school, so we'd visit back and forth sometimes), but I understood her most of the time. In all honesty, it's the Newfoundland accents I find quite hard to understand sometimes, and whenever I get into a conversation with one of the recent immigrants from various African countries here, there are times when I have trouble following what they're saying. How French did Picard sound ? This is centuries in the future. Scotty is from Aberdeen but could have gone to school in the US, worked in Germany and had a home in Australia. All would affect his accent.
Bottom line, I liked it.
Don't forget in real life Doohan is from Vancouver Canada. Go Canada !
Marina Sirtis' "Betazoid" accent was okay in the first season or two, but she got progressively sloppier with it until in the movies her accent bore no resemblance whatsoever to the one she used in the TV series. By the time she was occasionally guesting on Voyager, she was basically drawling her lines. It was grating to listen to.1) Jane Leeves has been living in America for a while, so like Marina Sirtis her accent has slipped a little.
I saw several of the documentaries on TV in the marathon when the Space Channel showed Day of the Doctor. I found David Tennant's normal accent quite pleasing to listen to.The new Doctor Who, being made in Wales, is of course a great ambassador for the Welsh accent. Starting with "The Unquiet Dead" in series 1, a Welsh accent or two has never been far away. Particularly on the 'making of' documentaries.
(Mind you, the current show-runner is a Scot.)
Someone from Glasgow, I'm guessing.
Not Trek related, but Daphne's Cockney accent on Frasier is awful. A Brit friend of mine said that she sounds like a Brit, trying to sound American, trying to sound English.
Well, there are two factors in that:
1) Jane Leeves has been living in America for a while, so like Marina Sirtis her accent has slipped a little.
2) Daphne Moon is supposed to be from Manchester, but Leeves herself is from Essex (near London) and largely fails to hide that fact to a keen ear. The thing that makes her sound unconvincing isn't the poor cockney accent, it's that she isn't supposed to be playing cockney!![]()
Not to be confused with the famous freelance news photographer.Someone from Glasgow, I'm guessing."Weegie"?!!?
^^ Or, as spoofed in Airplane! (1980):

When the British newspaper The Guardian (previously The Manchester Guardian) reviewed the first episode of Frasier, it ended with something like: "There is also a character called Daphne. She claims to be a psychic from Manchester. At least one of these claims is a definite lie."

A lot of people say Sylvester McCoy sounded Scottish in Doctor Who, but my American ears only hear a bunch of rolled R's among generally English vowels. There are Scottish actors and musicians and other people who don't even sound Scottish when they speak and some like Karen Gillian(amy pond)had thick accent.scotty's accent is ok.
Do Lithuanians turn their V's into W's when they speak English? "Keptin, the alien wessel just wanished!"

Now, David Tennant in Broadchurch on the other hand... thot's a theck Scottish accent.![]()
