I enjoyed this episode. Crowley may be rivaling Castiel as the show's best side-kick for Dean.

I wonder if we'll be getting alternating teams on episodes for the near future: Dean/Crowley one week, Castiel/Sam the next. Play with the character dynamics a bit.

This was a good one. Of course Crowley was fun like always, and I was glad to see them already resolving the Sam possession storyline. I do agree with the other people who liked learning more about Gadreel, apparently that is how you spell it, I've seen it like that in a couple different places now. I'm curious to see exactly where they are taking his storyline. I do agree with RJDiogenes that he did kind of cross from well intentioned but kind of misguided to a full on bad guy now. I still could see him possibly turning on Metatron before the end though.

That's actually a really good idea, and something I'd like to see happen. We don't really get a lot of Sam and Castiel interacting alone, usually it's Dean and Castiel.

But I don't think it'll happen, or if it does, not for very long. The fanbase gets cranky if TPTB mess with their Dean & Sam too much.

I'm getting a little sick of the 'one brother betrays the other, they break up, spend a single episode apart, get back together' schtick. After having gone through this so many times they should just say y'know what we're gonna get back together anyway so we might as well hug it out, bitch!

This show works a whole lot better in chunks. That's how I watched the first 8 seasons, 3-5 episodes at a time, and after dropping this season (after the one where Castiel has to watch a baby) I caught up in one go. Much more satisfying that way. The episode about Dean's childhood was great, hearkened back to some of the early episodes in a really good way. RIP Kevin, poor guy's life was hell for the last almost two seasons.

I'm more than a little bit sick of the whole "Castiel's the only angel who isn't evil or corrupt or killed off in one episode" shtick. Oh look, a friendly-ish-or-at-least-neutral angel came to help Castiel... oh look, she's horribly killed. Oh look, Sam's being healed by an angel named Ezekiel that Castiel thinks highly of... oh look, he actually died in the Fall. Oh look, not-Ezekiel's friend Abner has settled down and tries to convince him that it's alright... oh look, of course it doesn't work and he's murdered. But then, that's been true going back a long ways. What makes Castiel some sort of special little snowflake?

I don't think you're supposed to read it as she got out of porn because of some towering guilt that people put on her, more that she just got burned out on the industry and wanted a change. She seemed to be pretty guilt-free - aside from a brief moment of worry after Vesta kidnapped them - about having sex with Dean.

Considering what this fanbase has done to some pretty cool characters, they deserve it. :p

    Truth.

He clearly has some sort of learning disability, which is likely the cause of his innocence.

I mean, not only is he pretty much the only "good" angel we've seen, but he despite all the time he's spent on Earth, he still can't grasp the basics. Unlike every single other angel we've met. Hell, even Gadreel is better at grasping shit than he is, and he's spent all of eternity in angel prison.

Naomi pretty much said he was "defective" the moment he came into being. So he's not 'good', he's 'damaged goods' really.

So now that Dean has the Mark of Cain we can now refer to him as Dean Cain...

Well, Cain turns out to be an interesting guy---er, in a way. I wonder what other goodies the Mark will bring Dean?

Seemed to me like he got a bit of demon inside him... While sam had a bit of angel inside him.
Interesting symmetry.... Wasn't it the other way around last time?

This episode makes me wonder if the show will end with Dean running hell and Sam running heaven.

    Interesting idea.
As for the episode, I thought it was good. Cain was a cool character (although I'm a big fan of Timothy Omundson from Pysch so I may be biased), and the stuff with Dean and Crawley was great. The stuff with Sam and Cas was pretty good too, although not quite up to the Dean/Crawley level. It'll be interesting to see what kind of long term effect having the Mark of Cain has on Dean.

Cain looked like a younger George Lucas.

I liked this episode, with its balanced story. Sam and Cass focused their efforts on locating Gadreel while Dean and Crowley teamed up to find the First Blade that could defeat Abbadon. Cain's backstory was done well. He was more than just the biblical version of the first murderer who committed fratricide. He killed Abel to save him from Lucifer while sacrificing his own soul, and he eventually became the creator and leader of the demon knights.
