Hmmm, this show seems to be falling into the "characters not sharing obvious information" trope.

The one thing I really do not like is the overuse of upbeat pop music during horror scenes. Even the main title does it. You have to earn that. Or be Tarantino.

And I did have to roll my eyes a little whenever they started talking about their love triangle drama of the past in the middle of a life or death crisis.

Overall though it's tense, creepy, and I'm intrigued where the secretive machinations are going.

Yes. Very frustrating when they do that.

What killed me in episode 2, is the Army engineer guy talking her out of telling her boss the monkey was missing. In 1 day this newbie has instilled massive distrust in her for a guy she's known/worked with for years, and she places it all in HIM?

    Yeah, right.

Then he leads her to a field of frozen monkeys and it still doesn't make her want to tell her boss there's something rotten in Denmark?

    Yeah, right.

When is Jeri Ryan supposedly showing up?

Will things get better or worse when she does?

There's just so much an actor can do to overcome poor writing. :alienblush:

I'm not going to be happy if Jeri winds up playing a slightly evolved monkey.

The wife asked last night if I wanted to keep watching Helix, 'cause it wasn't grabbing her at all. I realized I agreed.

    Oh well.

That would be far to creative than this show seems to be.

    Me too.

Yep. More on the "miss" side. I guess the awful dialogue doesn't help. But there was no chemistry, which I know is tough to achieve in a pilot episode, but I just didn't care about any of the characters.

I snickered, rolled my eyes and changed the channel. Those fake frozen monkeys just looked ridiculous to me, and I just didn't care at that point. I wasted too many hours of my life watching "Under the Dome" simply because I wanted to know what happens. I suffered through the bad dialogue and bad acting. And then after too many episodes, I just stopped. I couldn't take it anymore. This show kind of had the same vibe to me, so I'm done.

Now "The Event," to me that was a show that had real potential, great acting and writing, and of course ended way too soon. Anybody see that one? I think it's on Netflix now. And since it got axed early, the ending is a very much rushed and dumb. But I was hooked. I digress. Back to work...

    The event pissed me off.

It got to the last episode and the alien says that the event even hasn't happened yet, and it's not something that they plan on making happen, the event is a thousands of years old religious prophecy that "something" would happen "somewhere" "somewhen".

The Event ended a few minutes after the last episode when the alien's planet crashed into Earth. Stupid aliens didn't know basic physics.

I think the mystery DNA is going to give everyone gills so we can survive the planet flooding.

I've given this more of a chance than most here but I found the last episode disappointing. We lost one of the few likable characters and we see all these despicable actions happening in a vacuum. They really need to start connecting at least some of these threads in some fashion.

Also disappointing that they kill off the character that doesn't have the typical Hollywood look, kind of like the cliche "black guy is the first to die".

Wow. Really? Now I have no reason to watch the last two episodes.

She was the only one I liked, and that was marginal at best. I still thought it was stupid that she didn't call anyone right after being attacked by a mutant monkey...

All the characters deserve to die.

This is what happened on Voyager.

Kill the likeable little blond, to bring in the stacked boob machine.

Doreen and Kes need to form a support group.

Church basement, little folding chairs and bad coffee.

Considering Eric Close was married when he started Dark Skies and tussling with Ryan by the end of the series, I would have assumed that his wife was dislodged from the program, however IMDB says the wife was in every episode... Meh?

Okay... Maybe because the rats that ate Doreen are super virus rats, maybe they become their food absorbing their diets intellect, attributes, characteristics and memories... Picture next season if ther are dozens of Smurf sized Doreens running around the complex trying to steel cheese off the giants running the place?

I have seen the first two episodes and, while I agree that it's hugely reminiscent of the Thing, the Andromeda Strain, and Alien, it was a lot of fun to watch. I get a bit annoyed that the infected scientists behave unscientifically (don't get me started on Prometheus) but it's not a stretch to say that is probably the virus. Plus overall, the scientific method used was better than most TV shows. I'm a bit worried that 13 episodes is too long and it is going to get flabby (Torchwood's Miracle Day could have been told in about half the episodes) but for the moment I'm hooked.

Dammit EMOBorg why couldn't you have used a Spoiler! She's my favourite character and it seems the favourite character of the UK Radio Times reviewer who described as the only character with any noticeable personality. I think sometime US writers think that being a sexy young thing is better for a show than having personality. I was hoping she'd be left alone in her pants with a flamethrower in episode 13. Oh well.

^ If you don't want to be spoiled about eps that have already aired you really shouldn't be reading this thread.

Poor choice to kill off the most likeable and interesting character.

This is the what you are supposed to do as a writer, extract the easiest to use, most loved character to prove that you don't need a magic bullet crutch to write a fantastic story.
