Poll: Vote for the best uniform.

Which is the best uniform?

A toss up between the TOS Movie Era and the TNG Movie Era. I think the TNG Movie uniforms are a tad bit more functional.

Technically, the DS9/VOY Uniforms should be in the TNG section too, it was their academy uniforms IIRC.

Close, but not quite without the turtle neck: http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100816184638/memoryalpha/en/images/c/cf/Nova_Squadron.jpg

Still, even if they were exactly the same, DS9/VOY made them more prominent, so they're better known as such, as opposed to appearing a couple times in TNG. If we went by that logic, then the TNG-movie uniforms would be listed with Voyager since we saw the EMH Mark II, Barclay, Adm. Paris, and a handful of others with it on, but again only for a few episodes.

My personal favorites would be the new movie uniforms. I love the blending of TOS style with more modern materials. ....

Agree. So I chose TOS.

Well, while I like the colors of the TOS uniforms, the material just doesn't work for me, and in the case of a voting poll, the look and "feel" of the DS9/TNG movie uniforms edges them out. Now, if the Abrams uniforms would have been a part of the poll, I'd have voted for them.

I don't feel the love for the TNG movies uniform. For me, the "dark" color scheme so many of you keep citing as a plus is a big minus, as the uniforms are lacking in real visual interest. They might be more 'functional' uniforms, but from a visual design stand-point I find them weak. They fade into the background too much, they just don't "pop" on camera like all the other Trek uniforms do. In fact, I prefer the early DS9/VOY/GENS versions to them for precisely that reason... I'd go so far as to say that in my opinion the unjustly despised TMP uniforms are better than the First Contact uniforms, even. :p

Overall, I like the primary color scheme. I like the visual interest. My favorites would be the TOS ones, followed closely by the JJ remake. In fact the JJ remake uniforms might even edge it. They look spectacular on the big screen. :bolian:

The ones that showed off Decker's Pecker, obviously.
I think I am in a small minority of people who didn't think the TMP uniforms were that bad. Yes the colour scheme was atrocious, but I liked the diversity of styles and designs that were on the go at the same time.

My bad guys. I wanted to make a thread with uniforms from the tv series.

Here are some pics of the movie uniforms. I couldn't find any gifs though.

I wish there was a battle scene involving the ENT and the Vengeance. Not the ENT just taking a pounding from the Vengeance and never firing once in it's own defense.

The Trek II uniforms would've been awesome if they had kept the TOS color scheme.

NuTrek - like TOS but with two layers, a pin badge, more texture and proper full-length pants.

Too bad the female officers don't have sleeves to show rank. :P

I say the Enterprise uniforms are the best, but only so far as I think they are the most functional. Based on comments Jonathan Frakes made about them, I think a lot of the pre-Enterprise actors might agree.

I also really love the flight patch on the shoulder. I think the whole thing looks less like pj's (which as much as I love TOS - Voyager uniforms, let's be honest here) and more like uniforms.

You mean like this?

^The sleeveless miniskirt is just one optional uniform in nuTrek. There are women in pants and shirts (Hannity and Madeline on the bridge) and in sleeved miniskirt variants seen throughout.

Whatever, it's stupid and derogatory towards women. I was never a fan of the mini skirts in TOS, but at least ALL of the female officers clearly had their ranks displayed. If you work hard to achieve a rank, yo should be able to clearly display it!

It's fashion, nothing more, nothing less. That the miniskirts are optional, and we even saw men wearing them in early TNG episodes, removes anything derogatory from the equation.

It's only derogatory if they're forced by someone of authority to wear it strictly for that authority figure's titillation and/or enforcement of gender roles, though. If a female officer chooses to wear it and gets the job done, then it's completely different. I work in an org where the top three positions in our structure are all powerful women and very much pro-feminist, but they occasionally wear sleeveless blouses or skirts above the knee, esp. during the spring and summer. It's their prerogative, and no one gives them flack for it. If they're comfortable but professional, they can do the work but still look how they want.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing more women in pants in NuTrek, but that's strictly for variety's sake.

Edit: I'm looking at Ilia's robe a few posts up. She is definitely showing more leg than any woman in NuTrek.

25 years ago, we laughed at men in skirts. Many posters still do to this day. But I'm willing to bet that society is much more accepting of it now, if the fashion is pulled off right, so if Trek tried it out today, who knows? Being derogatory gender-wise towards men for what they wear is so passe, and doesn't quite fit with how society's progressed in terms of tolerance. If Trek tried it today, there'll be some ridicule sure, but more people will accept it now than back in 1987.

I like the ENT uniforms best although despite my hatred for Abrams Trek, I do like what they have done with the uniforms.

As for who looks best in the gif

Has to be Kirk and Co

I'm sorry, but if it ain't a kilt it's just a guy in a dress. I'll still laugh at it today as much as I did in 1987. Call me intolerant, but I'm ... ok, yeah.
