I'm thinking it should. There was a time I wouldn't miss an episode, now I only make sure not to miss the Tree House of Horror, episodes.

The show has been declining. It's not as funny as it once was, and it doesn't come close to the quality of seasons 1-10.

The show is only renewed until season 26, which I believe is the next season.

So please take the poll and tell me why you think it should continue past next season or give us a series finale and go out gracefully.

I don't even watch the show anymore, but if someone is watching it and still enjoying it why should I care?

For what it's worth, based on the few newer episodes I've seen recently, it's far too late for the show to bow out gracefully anyways.

This show has been declining for over a decade. The fact that it's still on the air is baffling to me. I feel like the main reason people still watch it at all is because it comes on after football, and people just don't bother changing the channel.

That said, I don't really care. I haven't watched a new episode in years.

I'm just waiting for the day when the show becomes available to stream on Netflix. I may not watch the new episodes, but I would love to watch the old ones again!

As long as enough people still like it, it might as well stay on. As Aldo said, at this point its WAY too late for the show to bow out gracefully. I can't remember the last time I watched a new episode in the last 5+ years and thought it was anything more than average at best, and just embarrassingly bad at worst. It was really good for a long time, but its probably almost been average to bad in general for longer than it was good at this point.

I actually find the show to be decent and have some heart in the new-ish episodes I have seen. Why cancel it now? Might as well keep going.

Plus in a world where Family Guy is still on the air The Simpsons deserve to be on it then too.

While I think it should stop producing new episodes and bow out gracefully, and voted as such, I have to agree that its "graceful" days are well behind it, and that bowing out now would just be inevitability finally coming to fruition. I love The Simpsons from Season 1 to Season 13, at which point I stopped watching. Oh, I'd catch an episode every now and then, but the show doesn't hold much interest for me. Lisa cheated on a test? She's done that several times now, the shock value has worn off. Homer is an idiot? Of course. Marge frets over the family? Always.

The characters have changed to a large degree as well. They're not the same lovable characters we saw in the first decade of the show. They've changed, and to be honest, in my opinion they've become more hard edged. There are no more surprises, and the jokes are so old and worn out, Jay Leno uses them in his comedy bits.

It's time for them to go. Are they even making money any more? Surely they must be, or they wouldn't be on the air, but in my opinion, they need to bow out. Be done, and for the love of god, they need to listen to RojoHen and show up on Netflix. I will watch the hell out of the first 13 seasons (but especially seasons 1 to 10).

I still love the Simpsons... it's not what it used to be but its still funny. It's a cherished part of my childhood and I never want it to end.

I just don't get this, "I don't like it so it should be cancelled" mentality. If you don't like a show, don't watch it. Don't waste your time thinking about it. Why wish for it to be taken away from the people who do like it?

I don't watch it, but it doesn't remotely hurt me to have it on. If the point of this argument is that it should leave at a high point, that passed so long ago as to no longer be relevant. I have no desire to wish for dozens of people to lose their jobs by ending the show they work on just because it isn't as good as it once was. So, no, I'm not voting that it should end. If the voice actors want to continue and the writers want to continue, that's fine with me.

That being said, I don't think I'll ever want them to recast, so, if one of the main cast doesn't want to continue anymore, that would be an appropriate time to end it.

They should have ended 10 years ago.

As it is, this year should be the end. A great round number in 25. But nope, they're doing 26. Likely going to keep going year-by-year like that. And then it'll end on some random 27 or 28th season instead of a momentous round numbered 25 years.

Ah well.

Some sci fi film, Star Trek or Avatar or something, should have a screen running in background showing a future Simpson episode, specifically created for that film by the actual Simpsons team. Then released completely as an extra on the blu ray.

Well, if that's your argument, might as well make the push for 30!

The Simpsons' inevitable finale, whenever that happens, should be an event. That show has been on for so long that it deserves a big send off. Give the production team and writers enough warning, and I bet they can pull off a great finale; if they market it well, it might even draw in a lot of the viewers that abandoned have abandoned the show.

I've never watched it regularly, but I don't think I've watched it at all in the last few years.

It doesn't bother me either way, but if it still gets an audience why shouldn't it carry on ?

Another problem is that while it has rolled with the times in some ways, the writing/characters are still kinda stuck in that time warp. The character designs in particular are very 1990s. I'm thinking things like Jimbo and his school bully chums with their very Cobain-era grunge look.

But to be completely fair about it, I don't think anyone would've anticipated it would still be running regularly a whole quarter century after it's debut. That's... heck, that's almost as long as the original Doctor Who was on the air!

I'm with Alidar. Doesn't hurt me one bit to have it on the air. Really, I don't get people calling for anything to be canceled. Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's easy.

I watched the first 10 years or so and really haven't watched much since. I voted 'Yes' but in reflection, I couldn't care less if it stays on the air or not.

Fans want to see something they care about go out on a high note rather than continuing on as a mockery of itself.

I like to tune in now and then, I wouldn't want to see it cancelled, but at some point it has to be I suppose. Nothing lasts forever.

I think they should do a few more movies, I really enjoyed that.

They should stop making episodes and reboot it as a film series with J.J. Abrams at the helm.

I agree, the movie was pretty good and it felt like a decent way to actually move the franchise forward without changing the dynamic of it too much. It's a shame the series all but ignored the movie (but then again, the series all but ignores itself a lot of the time too).
