A&E Taking Heat For Suspending 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson

Even the Pope is like "There are much worse things in the world to worry about that same sex fucking". Obviously paraphrasing.

But why listen to the Pope, he's not white and the crazies feel they don't need to listen to him.
The Pope's an Argentinian born of Italian immigrant parents, though I suppose that's not "white" enough for some folks.

He looks like a but like David Warner in some pictures. Better a Pope Gorkon than a Pope Palpatine. ;)

Jesus himself wasn't white enough for some folks.... oh yeah, he wasn't white at all.

Funny thing is I was taught in school, and I was in Catholic school from Kindergarten to Graduation then on to a Catholic University and, around 5th grade or so, we were taught what an Icon is. The paintings of Jesus are icons, not meant to be Him but the artist interpretation of Him. We were taught that Jesus looked like some one from the Middle East and was brown skinned maybe even darker.

As far as I know the only description of Jesus in the Bible is in Revelations and that's of the Heavenly Jesus, not the one who walked among us.

Digression here but I find it interesting how Spanish ethnicities stopped being "white" in my lifetime.

When I was a kid, and long before, pretty much all of Europe and the middle east was considered "white," in accordance with the fact that the human species was divided into three basic "races": white/caucasion, black/negroid, oriental/mongloid.

Anyone of Spanish descent, except [perhaps] for Mexicans, was considered "white," due to the fact they were of caucasoid origin.

No one thought, for example, that Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball as a "mixed race" marriage. Similarly, when Benjamin Cardozo joined the US Supreme Court, no one called him "the first Hispanc Justice," despite being of Portuguese descent.

At some point, however, it seemed like anyone from a Spanish (or Portuguese) speaking country stopped being white and became "a person of color."

So now Italian Popes aren't "white" either?

I find Portuguese to be very interesting. I live in a town with a large percentage of Portuguese, I'd say 20-30% at least. Yet my graduating class was 96.4% "white". it's really just what you label yourself and others.

There is a great article in Nat Geo a few months back that is just a picture of a person and war they call themselves. There are fair skin "black" people and dark skinned Asians. It's a great article.

My favourite excuse from people like that?
"Catholics aren't real Christians"
They are the 1st church founded by Jesus his followers, according to legend/history...

It's been a real hoot watching the right-wing business owners and tycoons complain about Pope Francis having a bad and destructive agenda because he criticizes and doesn't like unfettered, lasseiz faire capitalism. Whether one is Roman Catholic or even religious or not, when the powerful and rich come out and rail against the spiritual leaders in our society as being the ones causing trouble and socioeconomic problems you know someone whizzed on their Corn Flakes.

What gets me is this is the same people who are against food stamps and government help of the poor. Because Jesus himself was against the poor and would only help the rich? I don't get it.

Those classifications seem to skip native Americans.

Not really the first, but the first LARGE INSTITUTIONAL church, yeah. But if you get into Christian HISTORY with a Christian, pretty soon they get annoyed because (1) they don't know enough, (2) it exposes the myriad of changes that have been made over the years to the belief system, and (3) it makes Christianity seem like a human invention (which it was) rather than some divine thing, and they feel threatened by that.

Transgendered Woman Honored By Catholic Church

That very same day, on a plane ride from Brazil to the Vatican, Pope Francis uttered the five words about homosexuality that have come to define his papacy. "Who am I to judge?" The answer signaled a shift in the relationship between the Catholic Church and the gay community. He said that while homosexuality is still a sin, gay people should not be marginalized.

CNN Vatican analyst John Allen said: "In general what you are going to see is a church that is more compassionate and tolerant, particularly with regard to gays and transgendered persons, but the concern that people might mistake that compassion for a change in church doctrine, that is no longer going to get in the way of outreach."

Months after Andrea's death, her body remained unclaimed in the morgue. Local charity workers decided Andrea needed to be acknowledged with a Catholic funeral. A priest at Chiesa Del Gesu, one of the most prominent Jesuit churches in Rome opened its doors.

"With Pope Francis, we have courage, we have enthusiasm," said Father Giovanni La Manna, who helped organize the funeral. "We have no excuse. We are called to open our hearts."

Charity workers, government officials, even the city's mayor gathered to pay tribute. Andrea's coffin lay amid the church's breathtaking frescos. A Catholic mass was held in her memory.

And then something happened that stunned those inside the church.

Throughout the mass, the priest acknowledged Andrea as a 'She'.

"Up until this point we haven't been acknowledged by the Catholic Church," said Vladimir Luxuria, a transgendered activist who attended the funeral. "It is as if the Catholic Church says 'we see you the way you feel you are.'"

When the Roman Catholic Church *in Rome* is more tolerant of something than a Christian there's some questions that need to gone over.

Actually, no. Back in the day, they were considered offshoots of oriental/mongloid for various reasons, including the theory that they'd migrated here from Asia via the Bering Strait.

But they are not Asian. And then there are also Australian Aborigines that are recognizably different genetically than Africans.

Your point regarding Australian Aborigines is well taken. Please understand, however, that my describing a theory that I was taught in the past doesn't mean I necessarily endorse it.

Those Catholics in Rome are all Christians.

True, but Catholic Christians tend to be much more "hard core" in God's law and all that the Protestant Christians.

You sure about that?

Obama beat Romney 50-48 among Catholics (basically the same as for the nation as a whole, pretty much what happened in 2008 as well), while losing 57-42 among Protestants. Surely it would seem to follow that as Republicans are less likely to support trans rights their voters would be as well.

Or am I missing something?

The Orthodox Patriarchs would like a word with you and Rincewiend. :p

Que? In a thread originally about Phil Robertson - definitely not a Catholic - quacking about God's law?
