Lieutenant
Just wanted to post a tng cartoon. Can anyone tell me how I can get a JPEG file into the text I'm writing? The file is on my hard drive therefore I cannot enter a link to a website or so.
Many thanks in advance! :borg:

Set up an account with a site like photobucket or facebook that can host the pictures you upload.

Then copy and paste the location to the post box :)

Actually, to include an image in a post you need to click the Insert Image button
insertimage.gif
, and paste the image location there.

You can't embed an image in that format, and not from Facebook. The URL needs to be on an image hosting site like imgur, imageshack, photobucket, or flickr. And the URL needs to point directly to the image file, not a page containing the image or anything else. No .html, .php, or anything else in there. Example:

http://imageshack.us/a/img834/5992/cjl4.jpg

To show the image, it needs to be wrapped in BBcode thusly (minus the spaces):

[ img ] http://imageshack.us/a/img834/5992/cjl4.jpg [ /img ]

Which results in this:

cjl4.jpg

Hope that helps!

Hi Gep, thanks for the explanation. I'll try that but since I don't have a flickr account or any of the others (never had the need for it) I'll have to set up the account first. :)

Okay, while editiing I can see the link, but as soon as it's posted the link disappears. No link, no picture, nothing.
This is the links without the bits.

Any idea anyone?

You're trying to post this image...

11545333084_501fed6a11_z.jpg

...but you are linking to the Flickr lightbox page, not the image.

Go to the address you tried to link (click here) and notice the icon of three dots (...) there. Click on it to see the various sizes of the picture, and from the page that appears pick an image size (the board guidelines say to not use images wider than 640) and right click on its link to copy its URL. That's the address you need to use here.

Success. And, since the desired image now has a life of its own, we'll close this thread. Thanks to all who helped the new guy.
