Disney now controls Indiana Jones as well...

I wasn't to surprised to hear this after they bought Star Wars. I'm up for more movies.
I actually did enjoy Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, although not as much as the first 3. I'm wondering if what they'll do now that Lucas has retired? It's always seemed to me that Speilberg has seen this as something he only does with Lucas, so I'm not too confident he'd return without Lucas didn't. But there are plenty of other people out there who could make good Indian Jones movies, and TBH bringing in some new blood could be good for the series.

Hmm, he is listed as director for IJ5, but it is also listed as 'delayed', whatever that means. He also has 5 more in produiction and 23 in development. Can't see it happening soon. Sure, he'll put some aside for this, I'd say, but it may be a while.

I think at the very least Disney owes Spielberg the opportunity to turn it down.
True. I also wonder if after 4 films Ford doesn't have a sense of collaborative loyalty for this franchise and character that if Spielberg says no then he's also out.
Their sense for loyalty must be extreme, given how many headaches they had with George Lucas in Indy 4. Or their contracts are enforced by professional killers.

It would be fun if they signed the star of the rumored Han Solo origin movie to play Indy as well.

Surprised this isn't being discussed in here yet, since it seems like such big news today (even if it's only confirmation that Disney is seriously considering a reboot). I may not be totally sold on the idea of an Indy reboot to begin with, but if they ARE planning to go ahead with it, I can't think of cooler choice than Pratt.

He's already proved with Guardians that he's one of the few actors out there today who's got the same kind of charisma and swashbuckling energy as Ford back then, and I can also imagine him getting much darker and grittier when the story requires it as well.

Much as I love Ford, I'd much rather see the character back in the 30s again where he belongs than see another 50s set adventure with an old and grumpy Indiana Jones.

This thread belongs in a museum!

Seriously, though, I did it with Kirk, I can do it with Indy.

I was going to make exactly the same joke! :D

It doesn't surprise me that Disney's put out the feelers on this, although I must admit Indy is one of those few franchises (Back To The Future is another, as was RoboCop) where I think I'd find it very hard to shift my loyalties to a reboot no matter how well made it is. Oddly enough, I would be able to accept a Star Wars reboot, or even a Star Trek or Doctor Who reboot, but my skin rankled at the thought of RoboCop being 'reimagined' (and I wasn't pleased by the results at all), and my gut feeling is that, while I'm sure there'd be people out there who'd love to see a reimagined Indiana Jones, I'm afraid it just wouldn't be my cup of tea. (Thankfully, I'm not the majority of the movie-ticket buying audience ;) )

I still don't see any reason why it needs to be rebooted. Just recast the role and add to the existing continuity. I mean, it's not like it needs to be modernized, because it's a period piece. And Indy's already been played by five different actors. And there are still plenty of unchronicled years between the movies. It would be so easy to insert prequels and sequels that I can't see any point in a reboot.

(And I actually thought a RoboCop reboot made perfect sense, since the themes and issues raised by the concept are even more relevant today than they were in the '80s. I was disappointed in the result, because it only paid lip service to those themes, but in principle it was worth doing.)

No.

Give me Indy 5 first while Harrison has still got it in him.
Have it be a passing of the torch to a new character.

I don't disagree at all actually Christopher. It was the realisation that ultimately killed it for me. I would say that I was pretty hesitant but I had an 'open mind' about it, right up until I saw the final result and I was just like, "Nah, not for me thanks".

There are some franchises that I just think of as being sacrosanct (I don't begrude other people wanting to see them reimagined though, I just think personally I couldn't bring myself to invest in them). If they remade BTTF or something for example, that'd be one where I just couldn't bring myself to watch it, even if I heard only good things about it.

In principal I agree there are places to go with a non-reboot of Indy, but if it came down to restarting the franchise from scratch, then I'm afraid like the BTTF example I cite above, it's another one I'd just be like, "Thanks, but no thanks".

(I'm not against tributes/continuations/adaptations of something like BTTF, I *loved* the Adventure Games and the animated series, but something that basically reworks the franchise into something modern and does that 'Year Zero' type stuff would be a step too far for me. I kind of feel like that about Indiana Jones, even though weirdly I'm 100% okay with something like Doctor Who or Star Trek being given the reboot treatment...)

That's..... kind of what 'Crystal Skull' was supposed to be. :p

They backed the wrong horse by casting Shia LeBouf as the new generation IMO, but the principal of the thing was there. ;)

Ideally ?

Indy 5 with Harrison Ford.
Indy 6 split, set in early 1930's with Chris Pratt and mid 1960's with Harrison and co. Recast the Shia LaBeouf part and introduce adult Short Round.

After that, Pratt with occasional Ford cameo/framing sequence where required.

No reboot needed.

Ok, so let's just recast Mutt then and go from there.
