Maybe we mean different things. You could be pale because you're ill, because you're tired, because you're going to throw up any second, etc...

Black people can be pale as well.


I don't mean being pale as in "opposite of being tanned". But in that case, yes, I do sometimes ask people if they've been on vacation.

I get the same thing. I'm ringing somebody up and the only one on register and another person walks up and asks "Are you open?" They can clearly see me ringing the person that was already there up. It is not a very big store either.

I wish I could tell them "nope, I am just standing here".

No, this one I get. Many is the time I've gone into a supermarket, got the checkout lane, seen the cashier ringing somebody up, and if I get on line the cashier says "i'm closed after him/her" cause they were told to go on break or something.

Sometimes I'm the one the aisle gets closed after. Either way, just assuming the register's open can lead to annoyances.

In our store, anyway, the check lanes that are open are lit up. If it's not lit up, it's closed, or about to be.
