The Night Of The Doctor

I know she never actually traveled with him, but it still seems odd to me that Moffat didn't have him mention Grace as well, given the role she played in his first adventure. And given the fact it's the only televised adventure we actually saw him in.
Yup, and that was the first Romantic Doctor Kiss onscreen, that set the stage for The Romances of NuWho, wasn't it?

I haven't got any further into Charley/McGann Audios, then Zagreus, but, I believe I read their adventures take a Universe change (Started at the end of Zagreus?) and what I heard so far, it definitely looked to be buiding up to a romance between the two. (Oh, I also know McGann Shada), so, from what I can tell of what I listened to (Haven't heard about 6 of the ones before Zagreus, in the process of gathering them now, to do a McGann listen through early next year), Charley definitely seems to have picked up where Grace left off.

Isn't there going to be a long gap between the Christmas Special and Calpaldi's first season? I would love to see some Eigth Doctor stories as minisodes or something in that time. I know nothing of Paul McGann but the thing that struck me watching that is I want to see some more of the Time War. I want to see that female character again (She was cute). For new viewers it would finally be a chance to see the Time War in action. For the older viewers, it is a chance to relive Paul McGann's Doctor. It's a win win basically.

I loved it!

Anyone else getting a Hobbit vibe from McGann's outfit? It seems something Bilbo would easily wear. Not a complain, mind you, as I quite like it.

It's hard to decide upon my favorite Doctors, but 8 always has been high on my list. I posted back in August about my love of the TV movie, even with its flaws (and, perhaps, because of them). Even with all of it's problems, Mcgann shone throughout. While people have varying views of the movie, I don't think I've ever come across anyone who had an issue with McGann. This minisode has propelled him even higher on my list.

I am not well versed on older WHO. How many times was the 12 regen limit mentioned?

Off-hand...

It was introduced in "The Deadly Assassin." It's a plot point in "The Five Doctors" (the Time Lords' offer to the Master) and "The Twin Dilemma" (Azmael's attempt at a fourteenth incarnation). And the final two parts of "Trial of a Time Lord."

Don't think Azmael was attempting a 14th regeneration, more that he knew he'd die and take what had taken over his body with him.

Agree that the Doctor didn't regenerate after the crash because he was killed in it - every after time he was dying and that's when the process starts (though I think the third needed some help due to the radiation damage). Think there has to be a degree of contentiousness for the process to happen going by the line from the telemovie where the Doctor says the anesthetic nearly destroyed the regeneration process).

We have seen a Timelord killed before and not regenerate (the Castellan in The 5 Doctors, The Lord President in Deadly Assasain). Both killed by energy weapons and that's it.

After he does his next Audio for BF I wonder what McGann's comments will be as he did want to come back in some form for the 50th going by his comments after Dark Eyes.

Peace Master?

That's the name the War Chief went by after three hundred years of programming, therapy and rehabilitation.

Actually?

What's the Chances that the war had been working for the Timelords all along?

Now that ALL of Big Finish is canon... The CIA Agent propelling Four to Skaro to take out Davros and the Daleks was actually something plotty that happened in the rear end of The Gallifrey series with Lala Ward.

And as far as a timelocked area to fight the war in which the doctor stays away from... Three's exile?

I just got into Doctor Who recently and I'm glad I did. I've really been enjoying the series although I'm not as far along as I would have hoped. That won't stop me from watching the current series once The Day of the Doctor premieres. I've seen Series One and I'm a couple of episodes into Series Two. I have see the 1996 TV movie (which I enjoyed) so I was thrilled to see the return of Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. He hasn't lost a step and it was so good to see him get a chance to play the character onscreen once more.

I really enjoyed The Night of the Doctor. It was impressively done and a nice set-up for The Day of the Doctor.

^I think you mean Ian Holm.

Plus the questions of The Valeyard, The Watcher, The Dream Lord seem to have suddenly and finally answered themselves. They're not incarnations of the Doctor, they're Aspects of the Man who chooses to be The Doctor more times than not.

I don't think they're the same as the War Doctor, though. He's an actual, normal incarnation who just renounced the name of Doctor. But the others aren't like that. The Watcher was a reverse temporal echo of the Fifth Doctor, and the Dream Lord was a subconscious entity without corporeal existence, an aspect of the Doctor's mind. The Valeyard... well, we don't know yet, but he was implied to be some kind of offshoot rather than a normal incarnation.

I want to see that female character again (She was cute).

You mean Cass? Considering that she died two minutes after meeting the Doctor, I don't see that happening.

Not contentiousness, just metabolic activity. Evidently the anaesthetic slowed down his body processes enough to suppress the regeneration mechanism -- kind of like how if you give someone too much anaesthetic, it can stop their breathing.

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP PAUL McGANN HOLY CRAP!

Paul McGann is, and always has been, my Doctor. I can't believe this! If you had told me this yesterday, I would have laughed at you.

I'm freaking out! HOLY CRAP

He even mentioned Charley!!!!
I knew you would be happy about this. More so than Green Lantern.

I got all misty-eyed. So amazing!!!

As a TerriO pointed out on Facebook, Steven Moffat has now written (or currently writing) for seven different incarnations of The Doctor, which I'm pretty sure is more than any other writer. Terrance Dicks and Robert Holmes are the closest with six and five incarnations, respectively, but I can't think of anyone else who might rival them.

If we're counting any performed media, Paul Cornell has also written for six: Davison (Circular Time), C. Baker ("The 100 Days of the Doctor"), McCoy (The Shadow of the Scourge), McGann (Season of Fear), Eccleston ("Father's Day"), and Tennant ("Human Nature"). Anyone who's written for all the Big Finish Doctors (like Nicholas Briggs, Alan Barnes, or Jonathan Morris) hits five just from that.

ETA: Dicks gets up to six if you count The Ultimate Adventure for C. Baker.

Cornell has written for seven if you include Richard E Grant in Scream of the Shalka.

Moffat for 12 if you include Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Richard E Grant and Joanna Lumley in The Curse of the Fatal Death! :P

Sure, Cass could be brought back, but then, why? It's much easier to just bring the actress back, isn't it? As a new, separate, living character, that is.

Any other year I might have squeed or might have cringed, but this year I just really too broken to really...*feel* anything about a TV show. Or much of anything else, really.

(Edit: content removed)

OTHER THAN THAT - I was pretty stoked - and totally surprised - when McGann stepped out of the shadows. Something I'm been waiting for a *loooong* time. (Now if only Eccleston hadn't been such a prick to the fans and done the special st least just for us.) I almost am only 1/2 joking when I said "*NOW* I can die happy."
