Casting a Gender-Switched Enterprise

Just as a fun thought exercise:

Supposing you were tasked with creating a new Trek show and that, during the casting process, the network execs decide to go after a different market and demand -- demand, I say -- that you gender-flip the roles of Kirk, Spock and Bones.

Which actresses do you cast to play the gender-switched characters?

No actor suggestions to offer yet but in case you haven't seen it Girls on Film gender switched a XI scene..

Female Kirk should be strong, beautiful and sexy. You should want to look at female Kirk and look and look.. and follow her anywhere. She exudes confidence and touch of wildness. I'm voting for Doreen Jacobi, not well known outside of Europe, striking and interesting and not just a pretty boy (girl) to look at.

Striding.. arms..

Follow her ANYWHERE!

She has some sci fi pedigree, she was in an episode of Lexx.

Good heavens! Doreen Jacobi looks perfect for female Kirk!

Back in the day, I'd at least have gotten Suzie Plakson to audition for female Spock. Maybe she could do female Sarek.

So, female Kirk gets to have a ripped shirt too, right? Just saying, it's essential to the character. ;)

Yeah, Doreen Jacobi is a pretty inspired pick for Kirk, I have to say. Sienna Miller was going to be my first choice, now I'm not so sure.

Love Suzie Plakson too, I was always surprised they never gave her a regular gig on TNG back in the day (though maybe she didn't want one). My pick for Girl-Spock would be Antje Traue (Faora from Man of Steel).

Gender-flipping Bones is a bigger challenge. Have to think about that one. (I look forward to being able to watch that "Girls on Film" short.)

Kirk: Somehow, she always seems to end up with her top off.
Spock: Has at least 4 Pon Farr episodes, every season.
McCoy: Hates being called "Bones" because she's approaching Middle-Age.

2takesfrakes: I heart Rosamund Pike.

Also, is that graphic your creation? Nice!

Seriously though, just imagine those two as Kirk and Spock.. wouldn't you fall over yourselves to see this show?

Yes indeedy! Still meditating on GirlBones, thought 2takes' idea is interesting...

Well, if you want to keep the age ratios, McCoy is possibly 5-10 years older than Kirk. DeForest Kelley was 11 years older than Shatner and Nimoy.

Yes, I threw that graphic together in Adobe, thank you for the compliment. I, too, "heart" Rosamund Pike - I think she's smashing! I'd love to see her cast this way, I really would.

I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only STAR TREK fan entertaining the idea of a gender switch for these iconic characters. I think it would be very successful, with the right chemistry amongst the girls and great writing for them to act out.

I'm interested to see what others have to say, who they see being cast, or would like to. I think KaDee Strickland is as good a choice as any for Bones. And yes, I want, ok? WANT Rumer onboard for it, as well. Please, CBS ... make this kind of STAR TREK!!!

Lucy Lawless might be a bit old for the part? I can't help it, I see Girl Bones as being more like an older sister, than the matriarch over the other two. I love Lucy, though ... I just can't see how Bones could be hanging out, all buddy-buddy with Spock and Kirk, when she's The Mom ...

Well Deforest might have been only 11 years older but he looked a helluva lot older than that.

Oooo.. Claudia Black..

And the Mom? NO SHE IS XENA FOREVER AND EVER. Also, badass cylon.
