Orci strikes back

So the take away of this is: If you didn't like Into Darkness and you raise valid points about it's many flaws in a fairly civilized way your points are all invalid. Because STD made money. So you can FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING FUCKS!

Is there a way to discuss this without all that profanity?

Also, while we don't warn for insulting celebrities who are not forum members, can you please cut it out with the constant "cunt" an "twat" type insults toward Orci? I get that it doesn't carry quite the same weight in Britain as it does here in the States, but it creates a hostile environment for posters here (especially female posters) who don't want to have to wade through a bunch of crass comments.

If it isn't against the rules, then I shall not stop swearing. Even if it might offend girls (????????).

Orci isn't a twat because his stories are full of holes. Plenty of nice people are bad writers. He's a twat because of how he carries himself in interviews. His explanation for why Khan is white in STID is one of the most obnoxious, embarrassing quotes in Trek history.
I'm still waiting for Harve Bennett to explain why he made Khan white in Star Trek II.

I'm not critiquing the change at all, just Orci's bizarre quote.
Who cares, it's the same person.

It seems that once you "unfreeze" an augment he/she eventually turns more white.

That's the common thread.

He has been sandblasted -- whitewashed, if you will.

Could it be he had a dark tan in the series and never had a dark tan when the movie was made?

Amazing how star trek fans put on this face of being so intelligent and talk like it but fail so miserably in choosing descriptive words in the English language to use in place of profanity, especially in a public forum. Using profanity doesn't make one look or sound smart or intelligent, it just shows how limited their knowledge is of the English language.

I know the English language quite well, thanks. But sometimes the only answer to the inanity that some posters spew is a good old-fashioned "FUUUCCCCCKKKKK". :techman:

Because I'm not a public figure and I didn't write the movie. That's my excuse. And I don't believe I ever told someone to fuck off. I may use colorful metaphors, but they're not directed.

So you're free to act like a child because you aren't a public figure?
Let's not go there, shall we?

If it isn't against the rules, then I shall not stop swearing. Even if it might offend girls (????????).

Just wow. When you think someone has gone as low as they can go, they surprise you!

No wonder no one takes you seriously.
Or there.

(And if you had said that to my face, I would've knocked you the fuck out.) :techman:

I love how proud you are of being an unthinking ape :). You go ahead and threaten more violence, chimpy. It's clear it's the only thing your mind is capable of understanding. You're only giving the image of the anti-intellectual Abrams gushers more credence.
Or there. Just stop.

No. If you see that language as being a problem, then what you should do is to open a thread in QS&F for the purpose of discussing board policy concerning that topic.

Again, raise the language question in the appropriate venue, which is not this one. And a swipe aimed at fan groups like yours quoted above is poor form (but I'm pretty sure you already knew that); please don't do it again.

His explanation for why Khan is white in STID is one of the most obnoxious, embarrassing quotes in Trek history.

You mean this one? "Basically, as we went [through] the casting process and we began honing in on the themes of the movie, it became uncomfortable for me to support demonizing anyone of color, particularly any one of middle eastern descent or anyone evoking that. One of the points of the movie is that we must be careful about the villain within US, not some other race."

Yup. It's obvious he's trying to just be right-on political correct but he unintentionally implies Star Trek is just for white audiences. It's a beautiful disaster of a quote. God forbid somebody with brown skin should go and enjoy the movie?
Orci's Hispanic. Born in Mexico City to Mexican father and Cuban mother.

I said it's not against the rules to insult celebrities. However, if a mod politely asks you to please stop a frequent behavior of yours (constantly calling them cunts and twats) because it creates a hostile posting environment, and you refuse to follow that request, that could certainly constitute grounds for an infraction. Not this time, though.

However...

Dude, you'd support Orci even if he denied the holocaust.

This gets you an infraction for trolling.

I love how proud you are of being an unthinking ape :). You go ahead and threaten more violence, chimpy. It's clear it's the only thing your mind is capable of understanding. You're only giving the image of the anti-intellectual Abrams gushers more credence.

This earns you an infraction for flaming.

Bill, the Holocaust comment he made was way out of line, but resorting to even making oblique threats is not the answer. Plus, you also provoked the situation a bit with the previous comment. Please don't do that again.

Infraction for other.

[edit] Sorry to step on your toes, M'Sharak, I was typing up everything and handling the infractions before you made your post.

The thing is, the only audience Orci is driving away are avid fans of the original Trek. His Trek has built a solid fanbase on its own. So he can tell them to go fuck themselves any time he pleases.

Ahem - AVID fan of the original Star Trek (saw the 3rd season first run on NBC in 1969) - not 'driven away' in the slightest, thank you.

Loved STID too.

Edited to add: Oh, BTW - if you're including TNG in the scope of 'original Star Trek' - don't, as there was very little original about TNG. 'Original' Star Trek IS the 1966-1969 'Star Trek' series.

Is it just me or does Cumberbatch have a extremely close resemblance to Montalban?
I pointed that out a while back, when someone ran side by side pictures.

Yeah I remember. Found it on the this thread http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=219790

Found this on tumblr. Thought it would be good for a laugh.

Ricardo and Benedict look more alike than I thought.

This old TOSer is a fan of the new films too, TYVM.

... Hmmm, that doesn't sound too good...

STID to me seems like an epic piece of fanfiction Orci, Lindeolf and Kurtzman wrote together. To live out their childhood dreams of remaking Khan.

They worked hard and worked their way up through the business to put themselves in that position. How dare they?

It's not meant to be an insult on their creative liberty, just and observation from a conscientious objector. They rebooted the franchise and on their second time out of the gate redo the most iconic villain of Star Trek. It's like if Abrams revived Darth Vader in Episode VII, because of his renowned reputation as Star Wars' greatest villain. There are rumors that Disney wants to revive Vader btw.

I still have the Entertainment Weekly from 2009 where Orci and Kurtzman talk about rebooting as a way to free themselves of 40+ years of continuity. STID pays homage to much of continuity of the primeverse. It has a been there/seen that feel to it. Except this time you're seeing it with new faces and $175,000,000 budget.

And you hit on the problem with fandom:

- My god, they threw away canon---sure 90% of we think is canon isn't and comes from books most people have read--but they threw out canon! Trek is ruined forever!

- Unoriginal hacks, all they're doing is writing fanwank and keep rehashing the old stuff. Trek is ruined forever!

Can't win with fans. Give what they want, you're an unoriginal hack; try something new and you're ignoring canon.
