Capaldi's thin features remind me ever so slightly of Peter Cushing...and that's a GOOD thing!
Oh, and did anybody catch Cribbins' brief mention about auditioning for the role when Pertwee was leaving? I KNEW I had read accounts of that, so it was great to have it confirmed by the actor himself! See, the plan was to reintroduce something akin to the original dynamic of the series when Hartnell starred. That's why we got Harry Sullivan. He would have been roughly the equivalent of Ian Chesterton, handling the leg work, the action. However, when the production was impressed by Tom Baker and hired him instead, well, the chemistry changed. Baker was the youngest to play the role by that time and was more than capable of doing his own leg work. Sadly, the production felt Ian Marter's role had become redundant (though both Tom and Liz have repeatedly stated they enjoyed the 3 person act). Back to the point, while Cribbins was not that old in 1974, he was slated to play the Doctor as older and somewhat frail.
Concerning Capaldi, I wonder when we'll see the first PhotoShop experiments inserting him into the console room?
Sincerely,
Bill
