New Doctor to be revealed on Sunday

An older doctor, maybe could work, it has before. A female doctor, right now at least it's too far a contrast to what we've ever had before. We're just not ready, and I'm on of the whovians who firmly hated the idea of a woman doctor.
You realize you sound just like the people in this country who said "The US isn't ready for a black president," in 2008. It sounds ridiculous.

They could definitely milk the regeneration limit for some good drama and storytelling, with the Doctor eventually finding a way to circumvent it. Let's hope that they don't just ignore it :)

I thought he was able to regenerate up to twelve times, meaning thirteen actual lives. Or am I mistaken on this and his twelfth life is his final one?

You might also have spotted him in Local Hero and In the Loop -- he's been in loads of stuff. Great actor -- I only hope they give him great scripts. Interesting synchronicity (sic) with the WWZ role. ;)

With the John Hurt character in the 50th Anniversary being another incarnation, this makes Capaldi the 13th incarnation.

You are not mistaken.

There's the issue of the HurtDoctor and if he's one of those regenerations. In the end: we'll have to wait until the special to know...

Thank christ they didn't pick a woman.

You know I wasn't remotely interested in this whole debate but this attitude is seriously beginning to get up my nose. What you're saying is half of the acting professionals in the UK, no matter how consummate their performing skill, will be unable to perform in this role because of their gender.

Well it looks like Capaldi is the 13th regeneration (i.e. 13th life), with the previously unknown Hurt Doctor slotting in at some point.

They could either play it for drama, or just through it off with one line, it was only a couple of lines in the first place.

At least having a Doctor who looks as old as Mick Jagger should put an end to his shagging about. And he won't be hopping around like Matt "Jar Jar Binks" Smith in case he puts his hip out.

A little worried in case kids wonder "Who's this new Doctor?" and come across The Thick of It.

I think it's safe to say that the Doctor will regenerate more than twelve times (i.e., there will be more than thirteen Doctors).

No, it's the "too different" thing. Upsetting the apple cart. People are afraid of the unfamiliar.

A female Doctor would've been brilliant, but Moffat has to leave before it happens. Otherwise we'll get River Song Redux.

Like the people above me said, if John Hurt really is an incarnation of the Doctor, then it's reasonable to think that he was the result of a regeneration, which would put Peter Capaldi at the 13 position. Moffat could choose to ignore this limit, but I still think that they could do a good storyline around it :).

Sorry, I realized I got the accent wrong. SOmetimes they both sound similiar to me. (being hearing impaired you don't always catch it all)

This is referencing the video. Didn't realize a handful of people were going to post at teh same time. Should have hit reply sorry about that. Why can't I delete this?

I agree. We should have a woman James Bond too, because it's only the sexist assumption that women can't act that's stopping that.

+1

Why is a presidents skin colour important. That's politics, this is television. Two quite different things.

No, he is able to regenerate twelve times, therefore giving him thirteen incarnations, but if Hurt really is the doctors ninth incarnation, it means he'll have used them up after Capaldi. But I think they've retconned this now, I think they've decided to make him immortal. Although what I'd do is instead for the thirteenth (or now twelfths) final episode, bring back the timelords in it, and like they supposedly did with the Master, for some reason they'd give him another thirteen lives, so he could last until doctor 26. And by then, the show probably will have ended or gotten rebooted. ( :( ) Maybe for doing them a great service at some point. Maybe for sacrificing his last incarnation to save the timelords.

Excellent choice! excited to see what he'll bring to the role and he's a life long fan too, and well done to the production team for not going with another young bloke.

I find it hilarious how various social networking sites are exploding with teenage girls using the words 'too old' and 'ugly'. Go find another fucking show to watch.

Yes well I don't know whether you noticed but the title Doctor Who is neutral. Also, unless I'm very much mistaken, the good Doctor is an alien who can transform its whole body.
