Re: What do you think about the USS Vengeance ?
I don't think they were going for subtlety.
Clearly. But still, come on! The bad guy's ship shouldn't be so eary to figure out right away. No one would guess looking at random pictures out of context the Reliant is the ship the Enterprise is fighting in TWOK. Even Imperial Star Destroyers, oversized compared to the hero ships they fight don't look nearly as "Evil" is Vengeance does.
To each their own, but...
Vengeance doesn't even look evil to me. It looks
menacing, i.e., powerful/armored/serious business. But
evil? Nah. It just looks like a Federation starship built with heavy armor and a combat focus.
The one thing I don't like is the... hole in the middle of the saucer, with the blue light cylinder in the front. Kinda goofy looking. Other than that, I like the design.
Loved that crazy sound it made when it just stormed right up behind the Ent at warp and started laying into it, too - that was unnerving as fuck.
It's basically the Scimitar all over again.
Vengeance doesn't come anywhere near the level of stupid powering the Scimitar.
If it's designed to be manned by a minimal crew, why is it so big?
Overcompensation.
OR... weapons, armor, redundant systems, etc. The ship's size was probably based primarily on those factors; they determined just what kind of overall capabilities they wanted, and then from there worked out how big the space frame needed to be. It also clearly has some kind of new deal going on with its warp drive, so who knows how much bigger the warp core and engineering section might need to be.
Starfleet and Section 31 hire Khan to design a super warship.
I have to believe it was already under construction by the time Khan was awakened. It took Starfleet at least three years to build the
Enterprise and that doesn't take into account design time.
So wait, what was the time frame again? If they specified the number of years between the time Khan was defrosted and the beginning of the movie's story, I don't remember what it was.
