    Executing Khan: Not OK.

Freezing Khan, with no intention of thawing him again unless due to extraordinary circumstance we need him: OK.

Yeah I had a bit of a laugh there.. why not put him in prison for his past crimes?

At least he'd eventually die and be off everyone's hands!

I thought the death penalty was outlawed in the Federation with the exception of General Order 7?

Yeah but he should be in prison, not frozen.

He's been sentenced to a cruel and unusual punishment with no end in sight and with no trial.

For a man consigned to that fate, he seemed to be content, if his smile was an indication of his feelings.

Well, Khan probably found out that Spock hadn't killed his people after the torpedoes were transported to the Vengeance. Also he probably thinks it is better to be frozen with his own people then have freedom as the last of his kind.

People look like that when their dead!

Seriously. WHERE is the trial?! And you know if you are gonna take a while to get the trial together (since all the witnesses are dead) you put a man in prison while you wait. So he can confer with is lawyers.

What sort of horror filled Federation is this.. OH A BAD MAN, FREEZE HIM!!

I think seeing Cumberbatch's nose 8 stories high has made her want to see the rest of his face.

The Federation wouldn't want a trial since Section 31 would have been exposed. They would want Khan killed, locked up forever, or put on ice. Maybe they gave him a choice?

We'll have to fight it out for him ;)

I thought the bomb disarmament scene could have been better done as a Kirk/Spock/McCoy bro scene but I suppose that had to give Carol Marcus something to do.

Ummm. There are some positives women wise I notice. The navigator girl was a normal size woman. There were some women Captain/First Officers at Daystrom. At least there were some before Khan mowed them down. Unfortunately when Marcus was meeting with the senior admirals I don't think I saw a woman there. I may be wrong though.

All the cast are good but I really like Sulu's character - he's almost like what TOS Kirk would have been at his age - and in fact the progression that Lieutenant NuKirk should have taken if the franchise had taken the time to develop him naturally.

Sulu is a real captain in the making. If you read the comics too you will see that he has been written with the kind of moral backbone that NuKirk and the other crew lack. Even Spock is very inconsistent compared to Sulu.

Yes, I found that distracting the first time I saw it, but honestly, it's one scene and about 5 lines -- not the whole last 3rd of the movie. And even the repeated scenes are with different characters, designed to demonstrate that these two men would combine to defeat Khan once again, even if they took complementary roles this time. On 2nd (3rd, 4th, 5th...) viewing, the shock has worn off and you can settle in and enjoy the notes that are different, rather than focus on those that are the same.

The way Kirk knocks Scotty out (rather than a neck pinch), then even in the moment before he takes the final lethal step, he comes back to activate the seatbelt on Scotty's chair. The fact that Kirk calls it "our ship" rather than "the ship". The way that they filled each others' roles, on the basis that it was what they thought the other would do. Lovely!

I know there's a lot of love for TWOK. I love it too. But I really think the rose-coloured glasses are pretty firmly in place for most people. TWOK had just as many errors, plot holes, inconsistencies, ideas lifted from past Trek and dodgy acting as STID, if not more so. I mean, I always wondered why when Chekov and Terrell first discover the Botany Bay and Chekov tries to scamper out of the cargo carriers before they are discovered but meet Khan and his followers on the outside -- why didn't they just call the Reliant and say, "Two to beam up. Now!" Khan would have had no way to stop them, and no way to follow them. The answer is, because it suits the script that they don't. If Kurtzman and Orci had written that, we would never hear the end of it.

Isn't that the first thing you learn in Starfleet School, if a bad thing is about to happen to you planet side, beam the hell outta there!

I wonder if the scene with Sulu in the captain's chair was a shout out to his character becoming captain in TUC?:)

No idea where else to put this, but I race in iRacing (an massive online motorsports simulator) and I just whipped up an Into Darkness paint scheme for my Street Stock ride.
