I hope this is a good spot to post this and I hope it doesn't already exist cause if so I apologize since this is the first thread I have made on here. But I am curious in Klingon culture how do two klingons show they have an interest in each other? And if two klingons have an interest in the same woman do they battle it out and who wins the fight wins the girl? While I am more so Starfleet I am really open to learning about Klingon culture.
Well according to Worf to pick up Klingon women you snarl, growl, beat them and read poetry. Though the last one was quickly dropped in favor of turning the Klingons into a cliche caveman society. Certainly in DS9, Worf's relationship with Dax was solidly founded on violent sex that required medical treatment every time. Kheylar and Worf sorta kinda fought a bit before they got their groove on. Even that fantasy Klingon in season 1 was snarling and growling like she wanted to fight. In Generations when Soran decked B'Etor, she just said for his sake he'd better be initiating a mating ritual. So... if you love a Klingon woman... hit her as hard as you can. Though if you want an episode of Klingon courtship for Dummies... in DS9's "Looking for Par'Mach in the Wrong Places" features Worf and Dax teaching Quark how to pick up a Klingon chick.
I guess if a Ferengi can charm a klingon woman in the klingon way then so could a human. Even though I don't think as far as I can remember a male human has tried to charm a full blooded klingon woman. Thats if you don't count B'elena from Voyager since she is part Klingon.
How Klingons have sex and how they woo a mate are probably two very different things: the former is primal, the latter is slave to ritual and custom. And the thing is, we never see Worf woo a woman... K'Ehleyr is an old conquest when we first meet her, and Grilka from that above-mentioned Cyrano de Bergerac remake never quite learns that Worf is admiring her. Worf does seem to go for that "poetry and pretty things" approach with Grilka, though, perhaps waiting for her to make the violent overture. When Dax and Worf meet, she's not a Klingon woman and probably for that reason doesn't get treated the way Worf preaches. Like in my mind I almost see sex and I apologize for bringing that subject up but in my mind I feel like sex with a klingon woman might seem both painful and perhaps very pleasureable for at least a male human.
Presumably, B'Ellana's parents did their relationship "the Klingon way." In fact, that might have been part of teh reason her father ran away...
^ I'm surprised they ever got together in the first place. You saw what B'Elanna's father was like - how would a Klingon woman ever be interested in a milquetoast like that? That being said, Klingon relationships must seem a real drag to humans like us. Klingons just basically beat each other up all the time. If humans do that, we (rightfully) call it abuse. But when Klingons do it, it's love? I'm not getting this.
I'm not surprised Mr. Torres walked out on Miral. He probably didn't much care for having the living daylights beaten out of him every time he just wanted a little zug-zug.
^ It could well be that John Torres was attracted to Miral and pursued her. I'm just wondering why she accepted (although she must have liked something about him - from what little we see of him onscreen, it seems that they were, for a while anyway, happily married). Strong women usually don't go for wimpy guys, do they? Guess we just don't know enough about John to judge.

Probably not. They might think it's "dishonorable". I mean, you'd think that it would be even worse than that to just feel like you have to sit there and take it when your partner just beats the living shit out of you every single day. But for a Klingon to have a level of abuse that they won't take, well, they probably think that makes them look weak. You can tell that I am not one of the humans who is into this sort of thing. So I admit I'm biased.
If a Klingon's marital violence reached levels that were considered abuse rather than foreplay their partner would likely just kill them.

Seems like if you fancy Klingons it would be best to try to go after a more humanized klingon since a full blooded klingon perhaps might be painful for you on a regular basis.

I wonder if there is Star Trek fan-fiction about a male human trying to romance a klingon woman in the klingon way. Or one that focuses on a relationship between the two. Just interesting to me.
