Very little happens, but it's a good story, it has many major story points from the original tv series, new story about redoing things you feel suck, and new post-post-post-apocalyptic plot.
It's very slow and moody, gorgeously shot and epic, and actually has quality control. Anno's back! What little robot action there is, is almost unrecognisable as Eva.
