New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode VII

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

So these movies would be the Jedi Knights version of 300... Han Solo prequel... etc?

Filling the time between releases of the sequel trilogy releases?

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

As always, I just want good movies. Thus far, I'd call about 33% (and that's me being generous) of the Star Wars movie "good." I have very little faith in this franchise, and I've never really understood all the love it gets, but there is a shortage of space-based scifi, so I'll give it a shot.

Well if nothing else, the prequels have given Disney a really good guage for what NOT to do in a SW movie. Obviously they'll never admit it, but I'm sure thats what's in the back of the mind of everyone who's working on these movies.

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

Disney normally thrives on kid-friendly characters like Jar Jar, but let's hope they take a different tack with the new films and - if they stick some kid- and family-oriented CGI characters in there (a given) - that they're at least a little more edgy and sophisticated than that.

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

I only hope they steer clear of the Skywalker family and give us new characters.

I love all the Star Wars films, prequels and all, so I am actully hoping that Disney doesn't just decide to ignore what Lucas has accomplished. They need to respect what has already been put on film, whether or not those movies met with approval from every aging fanboy. The prequels have a huge contingent of fans and were very successful, so what I don't want to see are Star Wars films trying to alter what was Lucas's story. It's his universe from top to bottom, Disney needs to still respect that.

If they're talking about releasing a movie every summer then their mind is on quantity over quality. As long as people keep buying tickets, does it matter how much they complain about it being bad?

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

Don't make me hurt you.

:guffaw:

Millions of fans would slit their wrists!

They'll do whatever they think will make the best movie. It is no longer his universe to control and no longer his story to tell. Thank god.

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

I wouldn't argue Lucas didn't stink some things up when making the Prequel Trilogy, but at least it was his creation, he still owned it and hadn't yet handed it over to another media giant to do with as they saw fit.

While he won't have a lot of control anymore, I doubt that he's out of the picture completely. I'm sure they'll be using his notes and plans, especially for the Trilogy. So it's not like it will completely split off from Lucas' vision.

And do we remember what happened the first time Lucas let his story be scripted and directed by another person? The Empire Strikes Back happened. So did Raiders of the Lost Ark. So it can be done and his franchises' greatest successes come from that.

I welcome a Star Wars without Lucas' touch.

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

Know what the new trilogy needs?

More Wilford Brimley.

I kid Wilford Brimley. No, but seriously. Space Oats plot to take over the New Republic and overwhelm the very fiber of the galaxy. Think about it, Lucasfilm.

Farting eopies were just the beginning.

Re: New 'Star Wars' movies will arrive every summer following 'Episode

This is really no different than the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we've maintained a relatively high level of quality with the worst films being just decent, which is going to get even bigger as time goes on. They're working out two or three movies every year for the foreseeable future culminating in Avengers 2.

I guess if we look at the "Trilogy" films as Avengers and all of the other standalone films as the Marvel solo movies, one per year doesn't really seem that excessive. And it's unlikely that the creative staff will be doing one movie per year, but different creative teams per film (writers, directors, actors, ect) with a few people overseeing the entire project/universe like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I don't think one Star Wars film per year is really that bad when looking at it this way.

This is exactly how I look at it.

And the thing is, after the PT ended, I didn't expect any more Star Wars movies. Just the possible live-action series, which, the more I read about, the less good it seemed, not to mention the less likely it seemed. So these can only be a bonus, an unexpected treat. If they're crap - well, I don't have to see them. I'll still have the previous movies to watch. They can't be taken away.

There is limitless potential for SW movies, especially now that numerous writers and directors can be brought in to make them. Gangster adventures with Hutts and their acolytes. Jedi derring-do. The adventures of Han Solo or Lando Calrissian. Young Qui-Gon and his Master Count Dooku. Mandalorians. Boba Fett, anti hero. Etc etc. If even 50% of these are good, it's still a lot more than I'd hoped for when I walked out of the cinema at the end of ROTS.

I wouldn't mind seeing all of these. The Qui-Gon and Dooku idea sounds really intriguing, since before his alienation from the Jedi Order and fall to the Dark Side Dooku was one of the great swordsmen of the organization and a Jedi of exceptionally high standing.

Charles Dance as the younger Dooku. That is all.
