I love how the Enterprise model is in the toy shop at the Air and Space Museum now. I had to get a photo last time I was there, too!

D.C. has some of the best museums, and most have free admission (though they get you in parking, food, and souvenirs!). I try to get up there whenever I can.

^East Potomac Park- There are usually plenty of free parking unless there's a major event on the Mall. It might be a long walk for some though (I've seen families do it still).

I'd avoid the munchies in the museum :) Most of the souvenirs can be found in touristy gift shops around the city for cheaper (a bit) especially if it's a bit outside of touristy areas like one of the malls (not counting Pentagon Fashion Centre  ). Though I always wanted to buy stuff at the museum of natural history, especially some of the books.

    Gee. I miss DC

Thanks all for the well wishes. We're up in Syracuse now, got in about two hours ago. Long drive up from Long Island, we close on the house tomorrow and our furniture is delivered on Saturday. So fun times ahead.

I would rather see it back in the real museum space, with more explanation of the show's influence on real-life space exploration.

Me too, but if what I heard once had any validity to it, the Smithsonian once considering putting the Enterprise model into storage. I don't know.

If that's true then the toy and gift shop display was a nice compromise where people can still see and have their pictures taken with it.

That's how it was displayed when I first saw it back in 1976.

Yup. From that perspective -- which is quite plausible, because the Smithsonian owns several times as many items as they have room to display -- I'm glad it's at least in the shop!

Better in the shop than in storage. A ton of stuff from the American History Museum had to be put in storage when they re-did the building. The stuff on display is easier to see, but a lot is missing. :(

I had a totally awesome time when I was in DC last year. I nearly burst into flame from the heat, but it was bearable. I saw five baseball games as well - fortunately, my seats at Nats Park were right under the middle deck, so I was in the shade the whole time I was there :techman: . I even got to see a brawl! (Cubs started it. :p )

I think my favorite non-baseball thing that whole week was the National Air & Space Museum. You could spend a whole week just THERE. :)

Try Southeast Texas and Southern Louisiana

Steamy and hot for half of the year  My former coworkers used to tell me of how windows would be dripping wet in the late summer due to the oppressive humidity. . I had left the school before I had the chance to see it for myself. I never saw it from my old apartment prior to moving back north though.

A lot of people like that bear look. Some of them are even women.
