Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Magneto frakked New York a couple years back, razed all 5 Burroughs... but every other comic book that out that month seemeds to ignore the event.

    The Trauma of the Inferno!

Fire Hydrants where bludgeoning dogs to death.

Kang built concentraion camps during the 6 months he ruled America after George Bush signed the US Surrender. Seriously, issue 50ish, George hands over the country because he's a wussy, and then everything carries on as if it never happened... There is no way George would have gotten a second term after losing the war, and losing America.

    Besides.

    Two words.

    Damage Control.

In 1988 Spider-Man knocked over the World trade Centre.

    Damage Control rebuilt it.

IN 1993, Juggernaut knocked over one of the Towers to the World trade Centre.

    Damage Control rebuilt it again!

    Damage Control RULES!

They don't have to go through time and fix everything in the final issue, sure they can but New Yorkers are hard ass obstinate enough to carry on after the Apocalypse as if it's just a bit of bad weather.

Keep in mind that Bendis actually wrote Age of Ultron about two years ago...and it was announced almost two and a half years ago. This has been pushed back at least three times that I recall. Basically most people thought it would be the grand finale of Bendis "Avengers" run. Marvel decided to make it an event instead though last year. They've pretty much stated that it will be mostly self contained.

Like Reed Richard's she has transcended code names.

    Ariel? Sprite?

Like hell those two names were going to stick.

She's been in four miniseries where the title has always read Kitty Pryde... or Pryde, but that's because they were totally going for a Bronte sisters vibe there. I miss Pete Wisdom. That flag faced ponce is running a British School for Gifted Youngsters but what's Pete up to these days?

    http://www.comics.org/series/name/Pryde/sort/alpha/

    Then there's also

    http://www.jumpingfrog.com/images/comics20/com1729.jpg

Marvel team Up 3 (Volume 2) doesn't have any of the girls names on the cover.

Do any of you remember the debate about Pussy Pride vs Vaginal Hubris from (the sitcom) The league?

Pussy is another word for kitty.

I'm not literally comparing her to a vagina, obviously.

But some of the scrapes this kid gets into, are certainly Pride vs hubris.

Didn't Joss reactive her Shadowcat codename? I am pretty sure she didn't use it for a while and just went by Kitty Pryde.

What the hell is a "Shadowcat" anyway? All of Kitty's codenames suck, but I guess that one sucks the least.

I'm guessing it was meant to be play on her first name's nickname and the fact that she can phase through solid objects.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I feel a memory where Emma makes fun of how many names she has had, but I'm not certain.

Having just read the first issue again, that is the only use of the name "Shadow Cat" in the entire issue (seen above), and when Emma introduced Kitty to the new class a few pages earlier, she referred to her as "Kitty Pride"... Funny? But you would think that Kitty would have gotten a doctorate at some point? She was supposedly a Genius and could have tucked a degree like that under her belt in the 80s before the Professor left earth to screw that alien princess.

When did Beast get his "first" Doctorate?

Advanced placement and accelerated courses are certainly part of the curriculum... More so, with beast, there wasn't enough time in the day to teach him everything he'd learnt, or prove that he had earnt qualification that... The Professor was probably "teaching" him... DUMPING massive amounts of Data into his brain at super speed, that he was learning years worth of text books every hour, inbetween Sentinel assaults.

Is he really so smart, or was his intellect "constructed" like a Frankenstein creature, to replace him should the professor ever be struck down fighting the good fight.

(I've also claimed that his infinity gem reached back in time and made Hank smarter too,)

And Cat is also short for Katherine?

But then, her name would have been Shadowkat.

Oh I know its very common to refer to her by her real name - much like Emma or especially Jean - I just was wondering if it was officially retired.

I dunno, maybe it comes from the same place as a Seahawk? :p I've always really liked the codename myself, I'd probably even call it a favorite. (Of course it also has associations for me with the Mechwarrior verse).

    That seems reasonable yeah.

    Her nick names nick name.

    Katherine, Kitty, (Shadow)Cat.

Didn't she take on the name "Shadowcat" after that 5 hundred year old ninja grandmaster took over her body and then left all his memories of learning to be a Ninja and killing thousands of people... And probably Opium and heroin too... after he was finally smited?

Pretty intense traumatic episode surely, calling for a visceral outward transformation usually in a youth facing identity issues... And her parents got divorced in that miniseries too didn't they?

Her parents were already divorced, but she found out her father was a crook.

It was also the period where her mother/daughter-ish relationship with Storm was deteriorating. And I think it wass also around the time that Colossus dumped her for some purple chick he fell in "love" with during the first Secret Wars.

It was a rough patch for a 14 year old.

Ugh, don't get me started on the Magneto storyline in Morrison's X-Men :p That was a total WTF moment. Magneto creating concentration camps and using drugs? NYC taken over, despite it being occupied by a thousand superheroes? (yeah, yeah, I made three phone calls) The event not being recognized in ANY other title that takes place in NYC?!?!

I also recently read that "Kang's America" story and I have the same issue. He takes over the frickin' world but did they mention it in any other title?

When did Spider-Man knocked over the World Trade Center? :wtf:

He was piloting a huge hundred story mech badly in the first issue of Damage Control Volume 1.

Tripped over his own feat and bowled those towers like a 5-10 split.

Well I think that was in pretty poor taste, given what would happen 13 years in the future!

Never would've thought about it that literary sense. You just mean using the protagonist as the title or in the title name, right?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I was thinking that Pryde and Wisdom sounded like Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, stamping couplets of human emotions on the cover at the forefront of the work, but that's Jane Austin and not a Bronte at all, my bad.

Although, from the title alone, on on further reflection it seems a bit ITV.

(Yes, I just ripped off Blink.)

I don't associate "shadow" with phasing. Cats maybe, because they do seem to appear out of nowhere at times. It would work better for Kurt that Kitty. They should have gone with something that invokes phasing more.

Was kid Kitty ever called "Kat"?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

When she came up with the name she was musing that she wasn't a "Kitten" anymore--Storm's nickname or her--but a "cat." All grown up. As 14 year olds tend to think they are. Especially those that have been to the far side of the Universe and helped save the world.

She's never been a Kat always a Kitty. In the 30 years later Days of Future Past story she was Kate.
