Abrams Directing Star Wars

No, after he reboots The Facts of Life. His version of Tootie is going to revolutionize American cinema.

I love JJ Abrams' Star Trek and I'm very happy that he's involved in the next Star Wars movies.

Let's be clear, though: don't you dare touch my Farscape, Jeffrey Jacob!

He has to do Farscape after he reboots Terminator and James Bond again.

Is all that happening before he revives Firefly and Galactica or after?

He's doing Firefly back to back with Buffy.

Warner Bros approached his agent about Babylon 5, but the poor guy injured himself laughing.

Can he do any worse than Lucas trying to direct emotion out of the Sears window mannequin named Hayden Christensen?

Christensen was very good in Shattered Glass.

Oh, he's better under other directors' tutelage and instructions. Life as a House was probably his best acting work in a film to date and Jumper was a serviceable performance. But under Lucas he was like a First Aid dummy with a lightsaber.

Abrams running Star Trek and directing Star Wars?

This could very well be the next "Golden Age" of sci-fi cinema a la the late 70s/early 80s.

Love it!

so whats so bad about him directing star wars?

its like that odd attitude some people have that you can't like both wars and trek.

Exactly. I don't understand the handwringing here. So some guy is working on more than one popuar scifi franchise?

Around these parts, we call that Tuesday . . . :)
Around here we call that "man with two penises".

This is all rather amusing.

It's like the ugly girl who gets taken to the dance by the cool guy. The cool guy said there was no way he could take the cute girl to the dance - too much intimidation and not enough time.

Now we're at the prom and he's shown up with both. Who do you think is going to get the slow dances and who will be standing by the punch bowl?

“I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big ‘Star Trek’ fan growing up, so for me, working on ‘Star Trek’ didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege"

And you think he will have time to do both? All his energies will now be focused on Star Wars.

You're Trek nerds. You've tried to convince yourself that you're not Trek nerds by mocking other Trek nerds, but you are. Your presence here is proof of that fact.

And you just got dumped for the prettier girl.

Don't worry, we'll be standing there with you at the punch bowl when it's time for the slow dance (I think it will be John Williams tune).
 Who the fuck is this guy? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read.

Hilarious.

That post was dead-on target, and those taking umbrage are probably the same ones -- or descended from the same ones -- who got their panties in a bunch when Shatner did the 'get a life' sketch on SNL.
It's dead on target if you're a curmudgeonly Trek fan who laughably feels they've been betrayed since JJ Abrams took the helm of the franchise, and can't stand the thought of his continued success and remarkable rise to prominence.

Being able to take on two of the most recognizable sci-fi franchises in history is quite an astounding and significant accomplishment, no matter how you cut it.

I envy JJ Abrams. Creative control over Star Trek and Star Wars? He just won the nerd lottery.

Congratulations to him.

It's a Gamorrean Guard reference. Probably the best use of animatronic masks in the Saga. I imagine if we get revisits of the classic OT species in the new Trilogy the makeup will be updated (they did so with the Gran and Rodians). It would be cool to see more Gamorreans and what 30 years of advances in makeup technology could do for the race.

It's all for naught if he uses CG in his movies; only plastic models are pure.

And puppets, man. Do not forsake the puppets.

It's Disney. They'll use Muppets. And part of Abrams' contract agreement to direct SW was also to reboot "Pigs in Space".

Someone's a John Hughs fan...
