Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Have you seen Men In Tights where Patrick Stewart plays Sean Connery playing Richard the Lionheart?

A cameo in a parody is pretty much the exception that proves the rule, I should think.

I suppose the main difference is that Patrick can act.

So can Connery, it's just all too often that he doesn't. Henry Jones, Sr. isn't Marko Ramius, and neither is James Bond. His greatest performance might be Marko Ramius in The Hunt for Red October, but it's the one that absolutely typecast the last stages of his career.

Try First Knight to see one of his best performances. There's shades of subtlety in that you don't see from him very often in his post-Red October work.

I know that a lot of influences and inspirations went into creating Nan Bacco, but I have the easiest time picturing her played by Cherry Jones. And yes, I'm thinking of her role on 24. Easy, maybe, but it works for me.

I thought I was the only one! Her attitude on that show seems to fit perfectly, even though physically Bacco is described very differently. I find it a very easy image for her to slip into.

I also had that same thought when I was watching the last couple seasons of 24.

Precisely. I can very easily hear her voice saying any of Bacco's lines, and the attitude is a synch. She's not even that far off from the shot of Bacco on the cover of Articles, even if it does remind me more of Admiral Janeway from "Endgame." :rommie:

Other than Helen Mirren I couldn't think of any other fit old woman when I read Articles - other than Admiral Janeway. And to this day, it's elder Janeway I picture in the role. :alienblush:

I think most people do, and it definitely fits. KRAD said he had Endgame Janeway at least partially in mind when writing the character. But Jones can do pretty much exactly the same thing. There's not much I'd recommend about the last couple of years of 24, but her performance is one thing I really did like.

Here's a thought:

What about President Bacco as played by Jessica Walter, of Arrested Development fame?

I wouldn't know, considering I've never seen anything she was in, aside from a bit part on Babylon 5, one on Magnum and a couple of appearances on Muder, She Wrote. Never watched Arrested Development, or anything else in her IMDB credits.

If you've never seen Arrested Development, you're missing out!
