Merry Christmas, everyone!

2012 is coming to a close, so I think it might be the time to look back at this extraordinary year. And to show us what you see, you may enter an avatar for our contest.

So, dear users of the Trek BBS, what happened in 2012?

Usual rules apply, I leave this open for entries till Friday-ish. And enjoy the holidays.

I have no ideas for this theme... well, none that I can express within the limitations of an avatar...

I do have a couple more days, right?

Four entries so far. I hope there's more to come. This year had a lot to offer.

^ Nice, but there was more than the presidential election these past 12 months. But, at least, now both of the essential candidates are represented.

But so much more happened in 2012. A few notes:

- Shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin, hoodies worn afterwards by public figures in tribute.
- Germany's federal president Christian Wulff resigns after corruption scandal, new federal president is his rival during the last election, Joachim Gauck.
- SOPA
- Solar eclipse on May 20th
- Successful landing of Curiosity on Mars
- Solar eclipse on November 13th
- Italian cruiser Costa Concordia sinks, 32 people die
- Nobel Prize of Peace for the European Union is somewhat controversial
- Shooting spree in Aurora, Colorado

And that's just off the top of my head.

Got it!

As soon as PhotoBucket decides to cooperate with the upload I'll show you my entry.

I can say that it'll contain some of the most significant scientific events of 2012... Discovery of the Higgs-boson, Curiosity lands on Mars, Private spacecraft supplies the ISS, Lake Vostok is reached, Quantuum Teleportation between La Palma and Tenerife and complete fetal genome sequenced from snippets of DNA found in mother's blood.

ETA: here it is:

Well, I haven't been around for a few days-- I've been too busy with Christmas to want to take chances with that malware warning-- do I still have time to enter? I don't see a Voting Thread yet. If the deadline has been extended, I should be able to get something in sometime tomorrow.

I don't think we're in a hurry... and if you ask me, I'd say that one more day wouldn't matter now... we probably won't be voting till sometime next year anyway :p

Which reminded me to post this second version which is a bit more self-explanatory.

Okay, since the RIPs and the science-oriented highlights are already taken care of, let's have something from the world of literature:
