The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer is here!

Sells a lot of tickets but kind of destroys the original vision of Star Trek in the process.
You mean Hornblower in Space, like Gene pitched it? Or the "vision" of Trek that people came up with after it aired?

Neither Gene's initial vision nor the composite that Trek eventually became nor what it became in the TNG era is what nuTrek is. It's none of the above. For some people, that's a good thing, and for others, it's not.
Sure it is. Star Trek can and did tell a wide variety of stories using all sorts of styles. That was Gene's "vision", an anthology show with a permanent cast of characters. Action adventure is just as Star Trek as social commentary or any other style of storytelling. later it lost some of the anthology feel but was still willing to use a variety of story styles.

Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but at 1:17 in the teaser, there is a good shot of the Enterprise whilst under attack. I won't post a picture, and I'll put the reveal in spoilers, just in case. When I saw it, my jaw dropped. I thought, "Wow! Never seen that, before."

A big slice of the Enterprise's deflector dish is missing and it's obviously out of service. It even looks partially severed from the front of the secondary hull.

I remember Trek co-writer Bob Orci asking Trekmovie fans the correct name for the navigational deflector/array/sensor dish several months ago. I suspect that...

Harrison has sabotaged the deflector, causing it to fail while the Enterprise is at warp, and the crippling damage seen was caused by micrometeorids and other space debris impacting the ship.

I hope the answer he got was a resounding “main deflector.”

So did anyone download the 9-minute IMAX preview?

Yes, when it first leaked.

And what happened to the new trailer? I'm so confused!!

You can catch it on the apple page or if you find it on youtube.
But Paramount is having it removed from youtube. Got my account penalized today.

Thanks Salvor. I did see the 2-min trailer on iTunes today. It was ok. But I'm trying to find the 9-minute one. If someone has it, can they please PM me?

Thanks!

Hm...

How is the guy inside the circle in that photo Khan? Is what he's wearing supposed to resemble something Ricardo Montalban wore in either "Space Seed" or TWOK?

Don't see it.

That particular guy? No idea.

But they are in a big room full of frozen, sleeping people. Is it the Botany Bay?

The guy on the left is a young fully CGI Ricardo Montalban.
You thought your childhood was safe? JJ is coming for you.

It could be khan... black hair tied back, broad shoulders... no evidence to say it isn't BUT shouldn't he be in one of the containers & frozen? Perhaps this is a flashback to some other supermen he had hidden away before he left? I guess we find out in 6 months.

I thought he was
the dad of the sick child in the first scene of the 9 minutes. those could be cryo chambers for sick people, not botany bay.

That would be a valid theory. After all, the cryo containers on the Botany Bay didn't look one lick like any of those....and the ship would remain pretty much unchanged because it was launched about 240 years before Nero altered the timeline.

Sure, J.J. and his crew would update it for a big-budget widescreen but they'd probably keep the overall feel of the old Botany Bay even if things were more detailed and most of the computers and circuitry aboard her didn't look like big Christmas lights from 1967. ;)

Well, for a 1967 television budget and the understanding of the concept at that time I guess they were cryogenic. Years later Khan in TWOK tells Captain Terrell that he and his survivors had been found adrift in space "in cryogenic freeze," so I suppose those "Space Seed" wall compartments were the 1967 Gene Roddenberry concept of a cryogenic slot or chamber.
