MLB Offseason 2012

Enjoy watching him taking those called third strikes right down the middle and complaining to the umpire about it every single time.

(I still like Youkilis and appreciate what he did as a member of the Red Sox, but that got really annoying.)

Dickey has averaged a 130 ERA+ over the last three seasons. He's well beyond the point of needing to see his performance repeated.

Five years, $125 million. The Phillies were rumored three years, $80 million. I'm glad they didn't match that offer.

It's a high-risk, high-reward deal. The high reward is because, well, he's Josh Hamilton and he can hit like a moon monster when his head's in the game.

High risk, though, considering, well, he's Josh Hamilton and is an oft-injured heroin addict who has developed an additional addiction to swinging at breaking balls down and away.

Yeah. I think the consensus is people were fine with taking the risk for three years but less so for five. But the Angels don't really seem to have a budget, so they don't care so much.

Cubs sign Anibal Sanchez for 5 / 75.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU HOYER

Dempster signs with Boston.

Oh well. He's the one guy I would have like to see back with the Cubs.

He can take his stupid, terrible impression of Harry Caray (which is really an impression of Will Ferrell doing an impression of Harry Caray) to Boston.

I have a feeling the Cubs made it clear that they wouldn't promise not to trade him again, since his only real value to them would be as a deadline trade chip.

ANIBAL SANCHEZ WHAT THE FUCK

Word getting out that the Dickey trade may be him to Toronto for J.P. Arencibia, straight up.

No way. I mean, the Mets are crazy and all, but no way.

The Mets initiated a smear job campaign against Dickey earlier this week; his departure was sealed.

The trade is sounding marginally better for the Mets, as it's now being reported that d'Arnaud will be the centerpiece of the deal, but it's still a crapshoot. If he's healthy, he's the best catching prospect in the minors and one of the best position player prospects overall. He's an excellent hitting prospect, does pretty much everything except walk (and that's more a function of killing the minors than a bad approach), and he's a legitimate good defensive catcher.

On the other hand, he missed the second half of last season with what was reported as a torn PCL in his knee, suffered in a baserunning collision. Knee injuries and catchers do not go together well, and at first or right d'Arnaud's prospect value is a shell of its former self.
