The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer is here!

Yeah, I didn't think this trailer really felt all that much like Star Wars. Maybe an X-Men or Batman movie at best. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the guts than the flashy stuff.

My friend was drunk and trying to explain to me how she's going to get tickets to the Hobbit. It didn't really make sense. So I figured this was the perfect time to show her the new Star Trek trailer. Her response followed thusly:

I don't get it
what is this movie about
who is this vengence guy
wtf
Sounds like the reaction they wanted. To created interest and provoke questions.

Now for my completely baseless prediction:

Peter Weller could be Khan, while Cumberbatch is Joachim.

That's obviously a long shot, and I hope its not true. I cast my actual, meaningful vote for Gary Mitchell. At the very least, the blonde is almost invariably Elizabeth Dehner. It really does look like they were trying to mimic her hairstyle down to a tee, and it's consistent that she's a Starfleet officer. Carol Marcus was never an officer. In fact, she had a disdain for the military (or, at least David did). She was definitely a civilian.

If they use Elizabeth Dehner, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't go ahead and use Gary Mitchell. It seems weird that they would mix and match to that extent. It would seem like arbitrary fanwank to throw two main characters (say, Dehner and Garth) from completely unrelated episodes into one cinematic plot arc. But then again, this teaser trailer seems designed to misdirect and pose more questions than answers. Who the hell knows?

The added scene at the end for the Japanese trailer obviously is a throwback to TWOK. One of the hands is clearly giving the Vulcan salute, but we have no definite answer on who is on the other side of the glass opposite the Vulcan, who is almost entirely surely Spock. I side with the Pike camp on this one. It makes sense for Pike's character to go down eventually, since that was his character arc in TOS, but of course, all bets are off in the Abramsverse. If Cumberbatch is indeed Gary, then his character has definitely gone down a separate path than his character in TOS.

2. The line "I have returned to have my vengeance" keeps bugging me (The original tile for TWOK was The Vengeance of Khan).[/I]
An earlier title considered for Star Trek Into Darkness was the far more generic sounding Star Trek: Vengeance. It's still called that in Russia.

Paramount has released the first teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness, and I have to say that I’m rather disappointed. It appears that JJ Abrams and co. have decided to double-down on the action and villain heavy plot of the Star Trek reboot.

He also says:
But I think that Star Trek should aspire to be more than that.

Which is bullshit, of course.

And he's judging a film by it teaser trailer.

If Star Trek into Darkness is "Star Trek does Heart of Darkness", then Cumberbatch plays the "Kurtz" role, and he may even be named "Kurtz".

One. Minute.

:guffaw:

Cumberbatch's "vengeance" vocals in the teaser trailer kept reminding me of some other trailer I'd seen in the past and I could not put my finger on it all day....until now.

Ironically, he spoke as much in this one 30-second trailer than he did in the entire 2 hour and 15 minute film itself.

If it is indeed Khan....wont Kirk kind of know what happened with Khan before the time line was changed from his mind meld with old Spock in the last movie.

But i loved the trailer....hopefull i can see this in the imax again.....is it going to be in 3D this time?

My theroy on who the Cumberbatch is playing.......cupcakes younger brother.......wanting revenge for his brother having to leave starfleet after the name cupcake stuck, and now Kirk, the Enterprise and its crew, and earth, will pay. lol

I thought the trailer was epic, and the Japanese version is better.

I think it's Rand.

abd it might be Khan... but don't hold me to that.

Cumberbatch is clearly playing Dennis.

I know this because of the gigantic screengrabs and a line from Memory Alpha.

I reckon that Cumberbatch is playing Boba Fett, leader of the Cylons...

Oh wait, I'm getting mixed up.

Boba Fett was a character from Babylon 5.
