Can't wait to see this fist fight in the film !!!! Ohh the news at the moment is making me very excited !!!!
This is exciting, because Gary Mitchell is so gonna get into a fist-fight with Spock.
I mean, the MitchellHeads do understand that "after destroying Starfleet with his vast alien powers, Mitchell is rendered merely human for a few moments by a blast from a phaser rifle" is not gonna fly in a movie like this, right?

Mitchell doesn't need to get into a fist fight any more than God needs a starship.
It's either got to be Khan (somehow), or another existing Trek character whose conflict with Kirk would have an "Oooh!" factor among the general audience when his identity is released. Mitchell isn't that kind of character outside of fandom. They'll say, "Gary who? So what?" If you have to explain to the non-fans who he was, then what's the big payoff from all the secrecy?
Also, as Legion said, having Mitchell all of a sudden become human because of a phaser blast is lame (although we did see stills of Uhura confronting him with a phaser, so --). That said, in the fight, he's still "super-human" enough to be able to beat up Spock and resist a neck pinch.

If the comic is just a trick to divert fans' attention and will the disowned from continuity later, there is no need for him to have the same god like powers he had in the series.
Think about Pike: He ended up in a wheelchair in both the old timeline and the new, but the circumstances were completely different and so was his end-state (no disfiguring and speechlessness in the new timeline).
Mitchel could be the similar: gaining super human abilities, but not the extent he had in the original timeline.

I was arguing that on another site. One of the themes of the first movie was people ending up where they belonged even though circumstances had changed. That could still be happening.
He looks like he's fighting Doctor Who.
