Was Star Trek 11 too similar to Star Wars?

Even if there are similarities between Star Wars and Star Trek XI does that mean people have expectations that I should not like Star Trek XI?

Sure, I can see some similarities but I liked Star Trek XI a whole lot.

In all honesty I said back in the 80s that Star Trek needed to adopt some aspects of Star Wars. I am glad that they actually did that. For instance, one complaint is that the Enterprise going to warp was more like Star Wars. I like this change, it adds a sense of realism that the other effect lacked.

It would be for a Wampa. It's not like he can check himself into Hoth General Hospital ;)

Similar enough to draw comparisons but, as stated, that isn't a bad thing.

I suspect the next film will double-down and cliff-hang a la TESB! ;) YHIHF

This thread is delightfully revealing of those who cannot fundamentally accept someone having an opinion contrary to theirs, so their must be something wrong with them worth insulting and demeaning.

You're absolutely right. I take back everything I said about the Wampa dying and I apologize to everyone who I insulted and demeaned who thought the Wampa would live.

Well yes, that of course, and this sort of thing:

I love the "Statler" and "Waldorf" quality of this thread:

Crap! It was nothing like Star Wars!
    ...
Well, there were some Star Wars bits (Besides, JJ had no choice).
    ...
OK, it was pretty damned similar, but that's a good thing!

You know, R. Star, I'm pretty sure I've asked you before not to do that.

I think it was funnier when it was... "Statdor and Waldo"?

I don't get what's so great about Trek XI's warp effect over the others. I found Trek XI's warp effect to be ridiculously cartoony while the simplistic effect seen throughout much of modern Trek is just perfect, IMO.

From what I gather you're probably right (more appropriate anyway perhaps). But at the time I was just in a panic because I thought I stuffed up. :)

    I knew that. :techman:

Personally I have no problem with including SW aspects in ST. In fact I think it would be great if Star Trek could embrace some of Star Wars’ moral focus, social optimism and powerful themes and issues. ;)

Don't forget, the Enterprise is a spaceship, JUST LIKE the Millennium Falcon.

And they wore CLOTHES, just like Star Wars characters wore clothes.

Watch the special features for Star Trek 2009. The concept art for the Klingons with the helmet made it look like they were going for a Darth Vader look to me.

Now I understand why they wanted to use the masks. To avoid the whole ridged and non-ridged Klingon issue from the TOS-era. Thought if I used hyperbole in my post people would see it was meant to be funny.

Trust me, humour doesn't catch on very well in this forum.
