If this is really true, then it cuts both ways, and directly undermines your statements about Carrie Fisher. Self-contradiction - good luck with that.

Tell that to Dame Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, and a host of other actresses, or Christopher Lee for a male counterpart. Star Wars doesn't seem to be a franchise that has considered age and attractiveness to be a large factor.

What I see for Episode 7 isn't a young/old, either/or situation. Rather, what I envision is a both/and, in which the older cast and a younger are blended for a single film and the cast looks a bit more like the recent Dallas reboot on TNT.

Yeah, there's no need to recast with younger actors since this will be a continuing story, just introduce new ones and pass the torch. Save the recast for the reboot in 20 years.

Ford and Allen made quite an endearing couple and probably the only good thing about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so really? I'm fine with it.

They don't care which gorgeous 20 year old actress plays Leia is what I meant.

You wanna see Judi Dench is a metal bikini? And of course age and attractiveness plays a big part in Star Wars, otherwise, how did Haydn Christensen get the role of Anakin? Right looks, right age, right height, had absolutely nothing else going for him.

Not surprising, like I said, Disney is making these movies for a global audience of casual fans who have never read the books.

Sooooo...they're making up a new story of "what happens to Luke Skywalker"?

And this is the point where this all veers into years and year of rumor, speculation and ansgt. :D I think I'll go back to ranting about how Benedict Cumberbund MUST be playing Gary Mitchell and not Khan.

^But they won't recast younger actors.

    I don't want episode 7.

I'd prefer a new chapter that doesn't follow the direct continuity of the original films. Just because it's Star Wars doesn't mean we have to follow the Skywalker clan.

Otherwise we'll get stuck with what Star Trek did and try to shoehorn the Enterprise into everything.

EDIT: I made that post before I saw the above link...

Yeah, I think ROTJ pretty much completed the Skywalker saga and see no need to go back there.

BUT I guess we can have some interesting NJO stories without the Skywalkers, eh?

The Old Republic would have been the way to go, though.

All that link means is they won't use the books. No indication they won't pickup story threads from the movies.

Well, so much for the old mid-90s "the next trilogy will be based on the Zahn books" rumor that was resurrected from a moldy grave just yesterday.

You have that exactly backwards, Set. The rumor was that the books were based on story notes for the films that were not going to be made.

I assure you people were constantly saying they thought the next films ( which were going to be made ) would be based on the Zahn books.

Honestly if you are that weak of a person mentally that this upsets you and impacts your enjoyment (or past enjoyment) of stories set in the EU then too damn bad.

I feel the same exact way I did when Trek got reboot. WHO CARES? It doesn't invalidate or destroy the enjoyment you had watching what you watched. That still happened. That is still in your memories. Who the hell cares if it gets rebooted or retold again?

If you are a fan of Hamlet and someone does a modern day version and changes characters does it somehow destroy Hamlet?

Set, I was alive back then and a SW fan. I read the books when they first came out and followed some of the talk back and forth about them. I know whereof I speak.

The difference being that what happened with Trek wasn't actually a reboot. It was an alternate universe story in the same overall continuity, featuring characters who crossed over bodily from the Prime universe. From the perspective of STXI, previous Trek canon still happened period, not just in our memories.

If you're trying to tell me the rumor I spoke of never happened, you really don't.

Isn't The Animated Series canon now?

Aside from selective aspects like Robert April and details of Spock's childhood seen in the episode "Yesteryear" it's not. Not unless something's changed and I didn't hear anything about it, and I doubt that.
