Northeast Frankenstorm, hurricane Sandy.

While I'm not in the affected area (and indeed have neither lived there nor travelled in that direction in my life before), I thought I'd chip in here and send all those who are affected by the Hurricane my thoughts for these next few days. Hang in there, keep the spirits high, and hope you all stay out of danger and harm. :)

Sandy is suddenly going to be a very popular girl's name.
It's certainly a great name. :bolian:

The front of a building fell off in Chelsea:

Just saw that on the news too. Yikes!

I'm nowhere near any of the action today but as most of my friends and family are, I do hope you all are staying safe and taking the appropriate precautions to remain so.

A friend back home posted this just now too, and I snorted my Coke Zero. Perfection in meme form:

I guess they were right about it peaking around 10pm. It just suddenly got about ten times worse.

Thank you. :)

Stealing!

Hang in there, all of you. I experienced Issac back in August, but it wasn't even the worst storm Baton Rouge had this year. Baton Rouge wasn't even hit that hard by Katrina.

Like Doubeohfive, Lot of friends and family are in the affected areas. Both the DC area where it was home for nine years, and the Springfield/Hartford area where I grew are being affected by the storm. I have family in New Jersey and the NYC area as well. They are quiet on FB right now.

Did anyone else just get an emergency alert with audible alarm pop up on their cell phone?

Water rushing into NYC subways.

The water level is a foot and a half over the level at which the sea floods into Manhattan.

Christ, that full moon won't help the swells in the storm surge... Nasty weather.... nevermind, worse things happen at sea you know....:wtf:

Water levels are now 2 feet above NYC's 1821 record flood level when last a hurricane flooded NYC anything like this.

I have a student trapped in NYC. Her folks took her out there Wednesday for her birthday (and we had a long weekend this weekend). They were supposed to come back today. Last I heard, they were hearing that they might be able to leave Wednesday at the earliest. I sent her Mom a text three hours ago and haven't hear back. I'm just a little worried now.
