Am I absolutely sure? Perhaps not. But the trailers give me reason to believe. Absolutely. 
First look at the Goblin King

Cool, that does look like the thing that falls on the Dwarves in the second trailer right at the end though!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the Goblin King at the end of the second trailer.
That poster definitely hints at some of the more humorous elements to the story. It's interesting to see how the marketing is trying to walk the line between the "epic" nature of LOTR and the more lighthearted elements of The Hobbit. Of course, the real trick will be if the film itself successfully merges both approaches.
Just noticed that this is the year of ensemble cast events. Avengers, Expendables, The Hobbit. If that trend continues, we'll have films with two dozen main characters.
^ Don't forget the Snow White and Dwarves films ... well ... maybe it's best to forget ... 
Just saw this on the Total Film website and confirmed it via TheOneRing.net: The first movie will be getting an extended edition release in late 2013! I guess we really are looking at something on the scale of the original trilogy, then.
Awesome. I can look forward then to buying the complete trilogy box in 2016 then! better put some money aside now!
