True, unless the only bullet was the one chambered and the magazine was out of the gun, I doubt the one bullet would give much weight difference, but it's not clear on what the gun's status was. If it was a gun with a fully loaded magazine, and a chambered bullet and the kid was cleaning it then he is an idiot.
(Also depending on the gun, I suspect it'd also have to be cocked or have some other safety feature disabled.)
In short he was cleaning a gun that was obviously ready to fire and he was not being a responsible gun owner in any capacity. A responsible gun owner would have made sure there was
no way the gun could fire when he started cleaning it. I've seen countless gun-safety videos where the instructor says you
always check a gun before you do things with it. Even if you
know it's not loaded. You still check. You make sure the magazine is removed, you make sure no bullet is chambered and he even went as far as to stick his pinkie finger in the barrel of the gun inside the firing chamber to make sure there was nothing in
there. He was insistent you
always do this. For safety.
But, hey, a couple of weeks ago I found my wallet and car-keys inside the fridge, so....
I get downright pissed at people who manage to hurt others by it. Luckily, that didn't happen in this case.
Well, he did hurt others. Think of all of potential children from those sperm he can now no longer have!
