Who do you think is the toughest member of The Avengers ?

Cingular

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Who do you think the toughest (whatever your definition of that is) member is of The Avengers, either in the film and/or in the TA comics and please say why.

Sentry could take them on both at the same time.

If you want to go for the toughest, then it's Rick Jones pre Abom, because he could stand up to anyone or anything sans super powers. Good lord, the kid has been the side kick to Rom Space Knight, the original Captain marel, mar-vel's kid, captain America and the Hulk squaring off against the harshest evil.

And don't give me poop about his membership status, becuase during Peter Davids run on the Hulk, Rick jimmied a locked door using his Avengers ID card...

This is a guy who made out Betty Banner without a drunken haze to blame.

Now there's some stones.

I'm gonna go with the one who got his powers after surviving a nuclear blast, and who recently survived a ground-zero one while powered up.

ETA: The Hulk once punched Thor out of the range of a nuke, apparently in order to save his life. That was in the "Ghost Of The Future" story arc, if memory serves.

Jarvis has an adamantimum umbrella.

If he has his umbrella, theoretically he could take out the Hulk since he's more than willing to fight a lot dirtier than Captain America.

This is the man that cleans the toilet bowls in Avengers mansion after the Hulks emptied his titanic bowels.

There is no love lost between them.

If we're talking about the film Avengers, then the toughest one is obviously Black Widow. Toughness isn't just physical strength, it's courage, determination, and the will to endure. It's easy to do well in a fight if you're physically indestructible. A mere mortal who could hold her own alongside -- or against -- this gathering of titans, who played a key role in bringing them together in the first place, who tricked the trickster god himself into giving up a key part of his plan, and who not only survived an alien invasion but managed to maneuver herself into the position that let her take the only action that could end the invasion? That's one tough cookie.

I think Hulk is by far the toughest Avenger. But if you pierce him with an adamantium fork and tenderize him with Mjolnir, pour salt and pepper all over him, and then marinate him in vinegar or lemon juice he should be quite tender and delicious. Hulk would be a smash at any dinner party.

However, except for the "talk to Loki" part that could as easily describe Cap or Hawkeye.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the invincibility of Hulk?
In the Avengers film it got so silly to the point where I kept myself asking: why do they need all those other guys when Hulk can destroy everything anyway?

I want the Hulk MORE invincible!

But nah, seriously, it worked, there was enough going on that they all were kept busy. While he's out smashing, the brains are figuring out how to turn off the device or clearing out the civilians or focused on other threats (a lot of ones in the air, not easy targets for him, necessarily), it worked well enough.

Just because he CAN smash everything doesn't mean he has the time to!

From the movie - Natasha exudes mental toughness, a much more interesting quality than Superman style physical imperviousness, at which I guess Thor would be the champ.

Do you remember Clor?

The government made their on clone/cyborg Thor to keep the super heroes in line if they ever got rowdy.

Yes. He was allegedly cloned from skin samples left in Avengers Mansion or something, but I have my suspicions.

More than Steve, who grew up picked on for being skinny, risked his life to become Cap because he wanted to stop the Nazis, lost decades of his life and everyone he loved in doing so and now stands as a man completely cut off from his own time? But who still fights the good fight?

They took a 4 year old ballet prodigy and said "Kung fu is almost the same as ballet, watch carefully, here's 80 ways to kill some one with just your elbows."

If she wasn't Russian that could have been damaging to a small child.

Hulk or Thor since they are virtually unkillable and a loose Hulk would be a great villian for any sequel ;)

But hulk can be beaten with that hole "Shiny Keys! Shiny keys!" thing, good lord you could hold that green fuck hostage with "Got your nose, got your nose... I got your nose!"

Giffen did this Defenders mini series a few years back where it stipulated that if you get the Hulk laid... After he cums, he turns back into Banner. If the US government had given their billions to all the prostitutes instead of the US military, all their Hulk problems would have been sorted decades ago. Another good line from that mini was "Hey Namor! Have you you found Nemo yet?"

Because he has shit for brains?
