  1. Ok wow, THAT trailer is amazing. It's almostw a whole year away so I understand why they're not putting this in theaters for the general public, but I hope they do down the road, because that completely sold me on the movie.

It would be a shame if we don't at least see a version of that trailer in the future. It's hard to imagine one that could be more powerful and effective.

I suspect the next trailer will contain elements from the comic con trailer along with new footage. The brief shot of Zod gave me chills.

That looks amazing. I like the cinematic one, but this one completely blows it away, even as a dodgy recording. I can only assume that they'll release something like this for the big screen before too long.

Yeah, anybody who doesn't have some sort of emotional reaction to discovering that he's an alien--and the last of his species--would have to be a robot, not a superman.

I'm sure there is some kind of example of mythology in "Man of Steel" that Clark would be motivated enough to be playing hero in a cape. Besides which I don't think it really matters. The shot is designed as a nod to US the audience who did play Superman as kids (I did anyway) and to obviously foreshadow Clark becoming Superman. That's what I took away from the shot anyway.

    ^ LOL :)

I know when I played Zorro I had a towel wrapped around my shoulders and one of those plastic swords! Also I had on a fedora as well...closest thing I could find :)

^I wish whoever had made that recording had thought to turn off the autofocus.

    I just came.

God, I can't wait for a higher-quality and longer trailer to come to the the theaters/internet. The one before TDKR was great and I loved it (even if it didn't give me much) but this movie is going to be.... Awesome.

On the discussion of Clark wearing a cape...

Seems like an odd question, I mean in any iteration of Superman we could ask the same question. "Why a red cape?"

The imagery of it certainly isn't only rooted in Superman from our world capes existed before then. Clark got it from one of those places, that or an in-universe superhero (Smallville had one.) Who said the idea of wearing a red cape and standing boldly with your fists at your hips can only come from Superman?

Oh, so you know how kids in this Superman's universe behave? ;)

Okay, Cavill looks fantastic as Superman in the Comic-Con footage. He's credible in a way that Reeve and Routh no longer are.

Oh, BTW, Clark is imitating Captain Marvel with the cape - there was no National Periodicals to sue over the character, and he's very, very big in Clark's world.

Reeve's as credible as he ever was.

In the context of Man of Steel, he most likely wears it to honor his Kryptonian heritage in general and Jor-El in particular.

Adult Clark/Kal, sure, but if I understand the movie correctly he doesn't find out about his Kryptonian heritage until adulthood.

Nope, only as a character in a period film. There was no attempt in the Reeve-era Superman movies to portray anything other than a comic-book vision of the characters and the world they inhabited, and Singer imitated that heightened and simplified sense of color and place. Cavill comes off here, visually, as plausibly existing in a world that looks as much like ours as contemporary commercial films ever show it.

    Cool, thanks!

That conveys a much better sense of tone, scope and direction for the film. Too bad the focus on that footage is a bit askew.

After the let down of Superman Returns I saw want this one to be great. They gave us great footage for Returns I recall as well, however, once placed into context the film was sadly disappointing. Felt like a big bait and switch.

Please let this be the epic rebirth on screen for Superman that he deserves.
