What is the Sea Org? I've heard a lot about Scientology (a lot of it from South ParkThe New York Post reports that she's out and about with a new crew of bodyguards, terrified that Scientologists will kidnap her daughter (the story was linked by Drudge). The divorce is apparently because she fears Cruise will ship her daughter off to Sea Org, the nuttiest of the nutty, where kids as young as five are used as slave labor under a billion-year contract.
It sounds like it goes after people with either massive self-esteem issues or pronounced narcissism.
Given all of these ridiculous things that have been described about Scientology in this thread, I have to ask - what benefit does it provide to the members? Surely there must be something positive about it for people to ever be persuaded to join up. But I have never heard what that might be.
Most of it is in the South Park episode that caused Isaac Hayes to leave the cast (he was a big time Scientoligist). Apparently they got into quite a bit of detail how the "church" works and he quit. IIRC, Matt & Trey got a lot of threats from them afterwards. You guys all know way too much about Scientology.

Scientologists give me the willies (and not the nice willies).

Neil Gaiman's family are scientologists.
